Chris Low: it's almost over final 3 candidates

That is because CBS is just as in the dark as the rest of us, and they have a quota to meet or to just mention something.

I don't care if the CIA or the NSA says it. Until Currie is behind the podium, I ain't buying it.

Point being I doubt that anyone knows. Esp Lowe. I doubt those are the three.

Bingo

A lot of people on here don't understand where the Tennessee job ranks now. With all the other openings and after 15 years of being a bottom feeder

Actually 9 years. We won 3 divisions in the last 16 and tied in 2003. Facts are we currently suck.

Looks like Dan Mullen to Florida will be a done deal very soon. My goodness.

We would do well to get Mullen. Amazing at the lack of knowledge about coaching/SEC. Kinda reminds me of a kid wanting to wear only name brand shirts and not really caring about the quality...I think a couple of the names we're hearing fits that bill...Petersen WOULD NOT be a fit here AT ALL...he has said that himself...and Frost is probably staying in Florida or going home....Patterson said himself the ship has sailed...etc etc etc..Leach might be a viable option but you never know how things would fall....I would probably take Mullen and be happy...and offer him enough so he can get the staff he wants....But I have zero inside knowledge and I like it that way this time around...

If it's really Schiano, it's going to be the worst hire in the history of this university. Worse than Dooley (at least you could pretend there was upside w/ Dooley). Terrifying to think he's being seriously considered.

His role in the Sandusky affair should disqualify him as is, but even ignoring that, his track record mostly consists of being a mediocre Big East coach who could recruit well. We already had that with Butch Jones w/o the ethical overhang of hiring a guy who protected Sandusky in order to further his own career. Not to even mention the fact that he's been a rather lousy DC at Ohio State. And he was known as one of the worst NFL coaches of all-time by a lot of knowledgeable people. Why even fire Butch Jones if you're going to downgrade to Greg Schiano?

DG, you are the only one posting here that I respect. Your insightful, factual information has been a good source. :hi:

Just spoke with my 73 year old brother in Florida (he's lived there most of his life, Gator Fan, BIG Pro Fan, Tampa Bay fan or was), he was excited to tell me he read Tennessee was at least "talking" with Gruden.

Then he calls back (3:10pm) says he heard focus is on Schiano... he said God Help Us if we get that guy. Our discussion is worth maybe two grains of salt, but he went on and on about Schiano's inability to get along with ANYONE, that he "runs everyone off" and basically, he's the worst potential candidate that Tennessee could consider... then we talked about Florida (he ain't happy at what he's hearing there either).

I was jumping for joy when we first spoke about Gruden; now I'm about ready to cry, seriously.

If we hire Schiano, it will be the worst day as a Vols fan I have experienced. I would take Kiffin back over him, praying that Kiffin would have learned some things over the past 8 or so years.

Can we drop the pedo references. Plenty of reasons not to like him as a coach without trying to destroy him with a refuted allegation. Tampa hired him, pretty sure their investigators vetted him and saw no basis to the allegations.

Schiano should not be accused of being a pedophile. He was an assistant to Coach Sandusky, who raped boys in the coaches' showers. You can tell me that he denied knowledge of Sandusky's crimes. My opinion -- I do not believe it possible that the other coaches didn't know what what happening. It went on for many years, and there is no way the other coaches never knew and discussed it.

After 30+ years, I’ll be playing golf this Fall on Saturday as well.

I asked a good friend of mine from another SEC school for his HONEST opinion, what’s wrong with UT, why won’t big name coaches consider us?

He’s a football guy and straight shooter. He offered 10 things but I only remember 7! Here they are:

(1) Too many cooks in the football kitchen. Constant talk about input from mega-boosters, starting with Haslam, add in input from Manning and Fulmer, in addition to Currie. That’s probably a negative to some coaches.

(2) Too much value in, and talk too much about, Neyland. The stadium ammenities are for the fans. All coaches and recruits want to see in the stadium is a state of the art locker room and the seats FULL of screaming fans.

(3) Gruden fantasies. Meanwhile UF just hired Mullen, who won 2 NCs as the OC at that very school, but we continue to chase Gruden, Kelly, Peterson, and other “1% Chance” candidates.

(4) We care more about headlines than Championships (Gruden, Battle of Bristol, etc.)

(5) No search firm? Mistake. Currie wants all the credit but it looks like he’ll get all the blame.

(6) We refuse to look at assistants from other schools. Every coach, from Saban on down, started as an assistant!

(7) We continue to believe that enough money can lure any coach and/or solve any problem. If we don’t get what we want, throw more money at him/it. Obviously that isn’t working.

I was inclined to agree with a lot of this.

Schiano? Good God.
