Chris Low: it's almost over final 3 candidates

Can we drop the pedo references. Plenty of reasons not to like him as a coach without trying to destroy him with a refuted allegation. Tampa hired him, pretty sure their investigators vetted him and saw no basis to the allegations.

Actually, no. And nor should we drop it. The fact that he has refuted allegations means nothing in this case. All that means is that he denies that he knew what was going on. FOR YEARS...and that he says he had no clue, that he never had a suspicion.

Utter BS. I’m not buying that. There’s no way something like that goes on around you for years and you don’t see something weird or strange or suspicious. And if you do and you don’t at least question it, the you are at best a moral coward.

Also, the fact that he was “vetted” doesn’t mean that he was thought to be innocent of knowing what was going on, it only means that he passed a few tests that satisfied whoever was investigating that Schiano couldn’t be traced back to it, or that it can’t be proven that he is lying about not knowing what was happening.

And, to be completely honest, whether he is guilty of complicity by not stepping forward or not, he is forever going to be tainted by his years of association on the PSU staff , and I don’t want that taint anywhere near UT or around Tennessee football.

And don’t bring up the tired “innocent until proven guilty”. This isn’t a courtroom. But it is the court of public opinion, and when you are recruiting and trying to argue to a kid and his parents who love and care for him that your program is the best for their future...do you think for a second that that association won’t make an impact on their decision? Or that other schools won’t refer to it during their recruiting pitches?

No one is accusing him of being a pedophile. It’s just believed by many that he was a moral coward and looked the other way...and it can’t be PROVEN that he’s a liar.

So, no. I won’t be quiet about Schiano, and I won’t stop talking about his years of association with Jerry Sandusky, and I won’t ever support him coming to UT.

I don't want an up-n-comer, but if I could not get a proven coach......I would talk with Brent Venables and/or Jeremy Pruitt. I think each of these coordinators would as good as any of the 2nd and 3rd tier head coaches being mentioned and would not have to pay a buyout or pay as large of salary.

He may be right by accident on the Mullen guess, but I think he's dead wrong to have Campbell on the list.

9.5 mil buyout paid upfront for an unproven guy, no way Currie sticks his neck out that far

Still, I would take him over Schiano at this point. First minor misstep, and the local media is pointing out dirt on him that is fairly or unfairly around him. Until he clears that one on the top, I would rather volunteer at the middle of winter car wash to help pay off Campbell's buyout. And he isn't one of my top 5 choices.

Totally underwhelming... but if it's Schiano I'm out. There are 50 other coaches I would take before him.

OK I am just wondering. I love Tennessee football and want a coach no matter who it is to recruit great talent and coach them up and go 6-2 or 5-3 in the SEC every year. Is there a coach out there that everyone loves??
Every thread I see about Mullen is "I would be done with football" "We can do better"
See Schiano and see" Sell my season tickets" with like 30 likes or "he is not a home run hire"
See Matt Campbell "Google coach" "Done with this admin" or " vomit worthy

Unless we hire Saban, Meyer, or Gruden it seems like 70% of people on these threads are going to burn their couches and throw away their season tickets for the next 5 years until we "GET A REAL COACH"

I just don't get it is the vols fan base really that way. EVERY coach has risks. DO you think the UGA fan base was regretting their choice last year??? What about LSU earlier this year?? being 2-2 and losing to Troy? Things always change with abs and flows.

YOU HAVE TO BE REALISTIC!!

CBS just came out with an article naming Gruden the top target.

That is because CBS is just as in the dark as the rest of us, and they have a quota to meet or to just mention something.

I don't care if the CIA or the NSA says it. Until Currie is behind the podium, I ain't buying it.

Bingo

A lot of people on here don't understand where the Tennessee job ranks now. With all the other openings and after 15 years of being a bottom feeder

But not only that, Florida didn't get their top man they wanted--Kelly.

There just seems no pleasing this fan base every thread that someone starts no matter who it is the first person says NO or NEXT or creates a GIF that shows how angry and wrong that person is.

If it’s Schiano I’m with everybody else, I’m done. No way I will support UT football. And Currie should be summarily fired.

Look at LSU last year...... the days of hiring away a successful power 5 coach to another school are over. It's two issues

Everyone has money now... so schools can match offers

And with the college football playoffs you don't need to move to a more traditional named school to win and get in.

If your at a power 5 and win your conference you are in.

There was a time if you went undefeated at a power 5 school that wasn't a traditional football power you could get left out of consideration for a National Championship
And that was just 6 years ago

Now that's not the case if your in a power 5 conference you can go

And they all share revenue within their conference so you can have the same level of facilities you have the money.

With the exception of Schiano, I kind of agree with you. But the objection to Schiano has little to do with his abilities as a recruiter or coach.

I’d love a Petersen or Kelly type, that homerun hire that turns the program around in a couple years based off name recognition and proven ability...but at this point, if you gave me a choice between Schiano and any of the other names on that list, I’d choose the other name. Every time.

If we hire him its time to padlock Neyland, close the program, and strike up the band, because the program is dead:

Coach Schiano...oh please no!!! I'll be glad to leave elements of his past out of dicussion and do believe strongly in giving benefits of doubt, BUT can we be sure that hot schools recruiting against Tennessee would be so thoughtful? You all already know. And, isn't recruiting already difficult enough already?

Once we have gotten through the Gruden, Petersen, Mullen, Frost list, I'd be surprised if Mike Norvel weren't looked at. He has Memphis at #20 in the nation, putting up 70 points yesterday, the Memphis program that was considering dropping football altogether in recent times. Butch Jones never did as much at Cincinnati.

Norvell has signed (or will sign) an extension soon.
