*****Chris Low expects Tennessee hire by Wednesday

If he has an agent worth his salt, we’d know.

There's only one freaking agent (for the most part) and he has a lot of clients that he's peddling to a lot of schools. Search firms don't bungle coaching hires like we do.

Why Currie would ever state that he was limiting the search to P5 experience only was maddening. You're either going to overpay for an established P5 guy, get leaveraged by a P5 guy for more salary and zero moving expensives or you're going to get a P5 guy that's willing to make a lateral or slightly improved move because he's got one foot out the door already because of his record (which sucks). And aren't those guys retreads? Really and truly?

The alternate is to get an experienced guy with a little left in the tank (ala Rick Barnes) to stabilize the program, mentor some up and comers that are coordinators and give the program 3 or 4 years to build it's brand back. OR hire a coordinator or a FCS guy that is ready to make a P5 move.

Jeremy Pruitt-Head coach

Number 1 defense in nation FSU 2013, National champions
Number 1 defense in nation Alabama 2016 Runner-up
Number 1 defense in nation Alabama 2017

Tee Martin- Offensive coordinator

Pruitt and Tee both received National Recruiter of the Year Award. Recruiting dream team.

Isn't Pruitt a slime ball?

Yeah... no. Pruitt’s a sleaze bag.

One thing I've learned during this search, is that we have a fan base that can't be pleased with anyone.

Moses parted the red sea, but he wouldn't be good enough to coach the Vols...

Said he was contacting coaches directly, no agents until deal being discussed, so that probably is why the silence.

I really hope not. We can and should do much better than Les Miles. Hiring a fired coach whose better years are behind him (IMO) rather than a younger, smarter coach who's winning somewhere right now won't fire up the fan base.

Cool. Where is this younger guy who is winning somewhere right now that we can get? Who is the much better guy we can get?

Did Phil lead us out from slavery to the desert to let us starve? Truly we are a stiff-necked people.

Pruitt and Venables with Tee would be great, but those are both young coaches who could be here for a long time. If you think Tee is your longterm answer, then you either give him the job now or find an older coach to help him transition, aka Miles.

No chance you get that combination. They're all three young guys who want to be HC, and are all at fairly equal places in their careers. I highly doubt you'd get all three of them on the same staff, nor could you get them to put their egos in check. You would not put 3 guys who have never been HC as HC, OC and DC. Just bad ideas all around.

If we got Miles, Tee, and Pruitt that would be an elite staff imo. I would expect to be in the SEC champ games with two years.

Time for Les and Tee

No, we still can do better. My choice is Brent Venables. Clemson outstanding DC. Look at his outstanding defensive strategies for each game he is involved with. Open the wallets and allow him to be the new HC and allow him to hire his own staff. He could be a legend killer against Saban, Mullen, Jimbo Fisher and Smart. He is the real deal. If we don't get him soon someone else will and he will be another one we have to play against.

Fulmer is going to be working the room in NYC at the College Football Hall of Fame, shaking hands and gauging interest fron the many sitting head coaches that will be there. I would think Wednesday might be a little early to get someone wrapped up if he gets some takers. It may take until Friday, but probably not much later than that.

Venables, Kiffin, Brohm, Leach, Shaw, Norvell, Campbell (too late), Malzahn ... now you can come up with convincing reasons why none of these guys would come to UT but I assume Fulmer being named A.D. means we get something of a mulligan. In any event we should go hard after some of these guys and to quote lots of other posters, "back up the money truck."

So could possibly beat some good coaches is better than a guy who has proven he beats other good coaches and has the most wins against Saban?

Did you forget his defenses at LSU?

BV would be a good hire. Les is proven though.

of all the realistic names being linked, I would be giddy if we got Miles or Venables.

Miles if we want safe & stability
Venables if we want to go for the homerun

BV is not winning anywhere. He isn't a hc. Miles has a better resume. This is a close one. Experience and resume vs hot up and comer.

Miles has won bigger than Kiffin. They won;'t hire him also. I would actually take him over Miles. Not happening though.

Brohm. I would take over Miles. Not happening.

Shaw. Would be the best. Won't happen.

Campbell. Not happening.

Malzahn. Not happening.

Norvell overrated. I would rather give Tee a shot. Same resume except for two years riding JF's rebuild at UM. Tee would recruit better and knows the SEC. I would take Miles over him no question. It won't happen anyway. Too much smoke on personal issues.

Leach. I would take. I would rather have Miles though. We would recruit better and win more while being more boring. That is fine with me. But its not happening anyway. He is too much of a loose cannon for the good ole boys here.

Pretty much your whole list is unrealistic. BV is the most realistic. He could be great. He could be a flop. Miles is a guaranteed winner who would bring in top ten classes. Toss up between Miles and the only realistic guy on your list.
