Chris Jones...

Good grief man, you said he had 4 Grey Cups, assistant coaches don't win Grey Cups. You are DQ'd.

Stop making up rules as you go along. Tell all those assistant coaches and coordinators that 'DIDN'T' win NC's under Saban that they can't claim those championships.

Tell Chavis that he didn't win a championship with the 98 Team.

Yawn, try again.

I'm not sure if many of you know about this man. He is a native of Tennessee (South Pittsburg, TN). Has mountains of football coaching experience. Is a proven winner and could probably be enticed away from his current job for the right $$$.

Yes, I am talking about Chris Jones, the HFC for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders in the CFL.

Before you laugh it up consider his resume.

4- Gray Cup Championships (Equivalent to the NFL's Super Bowl Lombardi Trophy)
7- Gray Cup Appearances

- He has been successful everywhere he has been.
- He has CFB coaching experience (its been some time admittedly)

Now, how does Pro HC success translate to College SEC HC Football Success? I do not know that. However, we have another thread rooting for a man who has won LESS championships.

Plus he talks like he is from around here. LOL

What do you all think? There are tons of YouTube videos of his pressers if anyone wants to take a look.

thanks!

Well, what are we looking for then? That (37-28 Lifetime) comes out to 56.9% winning percentage.

Here is some records that are with names that are floating around right now.

John Gruden- 95-81, .54%
Gary Patterson- 154-54, 74%
Charlie Strong- 58-37, 61%
Nick Saban- 215-61-1, .77%

I'm getting pretty tired to look up any more of these coaches tonight.

Fact of the matter, none of us really have much of say on who gets hired or when CBJ gets fired, all we can really do is stop buying tickets and gear. (Hard to do, my DW bought me a new Vols hat tonight, I ain't complaining about a hat, its pretty awesome.)

Thanks!

I'm just wondering why anyone would want a CFL coach with a less than 57% winning percentage?

LOL 77 & 74 %'s form college coaches.......which directly reflect college success is not a good analogy for you to use when your guy is 56% and never coached in a D1 college.

I'm just saying if people are hoping (I mean that is all we are doing anyway).......why not hope for much more.

Gary Patterson or Chris Peterson are the best coaches out there. Both should have to say no to 6-8 million a year before anyone else is even considered.

Its time to unload the wagon to get a proven college coach.

Hell, Gary Patterson plays an acoustic guitar and sings country music, HE BELONGS HERE!!

Here is a pretty good video from Warren Moon explaining the differences. It's pretty fast paced and exciting to watch.

Thanks for that, JV! I watch the CFL when it's on, because I'm looking for a football fix around that time of year. Watching that video taught me so many things that I wasn't aware/clear of/on...and I've been watching the CFL since ESPN was invented, lol. And I know of Jones, as I know you do...he's a legend around these parts...many from here have wanted him for years.

I know Chris personally (his son was one of my best friends, have Chris' number in my phone, did some work for him this summer). He's a fantastic coach, extremely hard worker, and a incredible guy. Great family.

I asked him when I saw him this summer if he'd ever consider coming back to the states. I know he's got two girls growing up right now.

He said he would definitely have to think about it if the right opportunity came up. But he also told me that since he's been in the CFL so long, he's pretty used to and comfortable with that game, and he's worked his way to the top, as he's now the GM VP of Football Operations and Head Coach of The Roughriders.

They literally just opened a new stadium, and he's taken them from 5-13 last year (his first year) to already 8-6 this year.

I love Chris, and would LOVE to see him as coach down here. But I don't think it'll ever happen. He's kind of solidified his niche in the Canadian game, and seems really happy there.

If you remember, he was the one who signed Vince Young this summer. Hate that experiment didn't work out.

Either way, Chris is definitely a great coach. May not ever try his hand at NCAA coaching (did some GA work at Alabama and Tennessee Tech I think), but definitely has brought himself some solid success in the Canadian game.

Lol. I don't see any way Chris comes from the HC of a CFL team to the head coach of a NCAA Power 5 job.

However, I do think he'd make a heck of a DC. But that's the point, he wouldn't take a step down when he's at the top in the world he's lived in for so long.

I think there's a lot of names that would get thrown around before his came up, and even he'd agree with that.
