call me crazy but didn't Leonard little convert from on to de later in his career as a Vol? I'm not saying donald will compare results wise to little but if donald can adapt to the lb/de role he may pan out

ya good point. leonard was a great lb in college and then became an elite end in the league. hopefully donald can make that same transition. minus the killing a lady. ooops

A guy named Patrick Willis from Bruceton, TN. (1A ball) was pretty good against inferior competition too. Didn't he turn out ok?

Come on man, bring something with a little more substance.

ya good for you, you found an example. you even had his hometown. what a smart guy. some of these guys that dominate high school competition(which is all of them because they wouldnt be here if they didnt) cant do it against guys that are as good or better. it just happnens. and you never know untill you see them at this level. did i think chumpton(loved the play on words) was going to be a stud out of high school? ya you better believe it. didnt pan out though.

He may be a good LB/DE hybrid for the next level. Who knows. Wait at least a couple games into the year. No one even knows the final depth chart as of now including Kiffin.

Some of you guy's kill me with your hate for one of our own. Just because some sources rate him so high is not his fault. He was good enough to earn a free ride to our school, for some of you to bash him. Just because he don't live up to your expectations! I hope he can improve to where he can help us win. Give this hate sh!! a break! Go Vols.

Same goes to you too! Another thing nobody is gonna tell me what I should or should not do! You lil kids on here humor me. Call CD what you want, he's a great player & will help UT. Don't jump on the CD band wagon, when he proves you wrong though! Besides, he's getting an education, & just for that will never be a bust in his family's eyes. People like you gonna cause me too banned on here.
Freak has a great thing going here, & has put in lot of effort to make upgrades & keep us informed. I like this site, but there are some real lames on this board too.

What u said! Exactly what I'm saying, he's a vol WTF!
Wish him the best & move on, no need to hate on the kid & bash him. At least let him finish his career. Some of these people must not be happy with their own life! I guess that's CD's fault too. Lol!

I like what you said about him getting his education. It amazes me how people can bash our guys for not living up to their entertainment expectations. The guys doin his thing get off his back.

It's funny how people hate how I've talked about the Rogers' brothers but leave Donald out to dry.

Back to Donald I think he'll be good coming off the edge. Would be good to see Monte use somewhat of a 3-4 at times and let him play rush LB. He'd be a problem for opposing offenses with his athleticism and people not knowing if he was rushing or playing zone.

I went to all but 3 practices last spring and went to practice yesterday.. Chris' second day at DE... IMO its the best he has looked since Coach Kiffin took over......He has a real opportunity since we are so thin on the defensive line

I now CD has been heavily scrutinized over the past couple years.
After hearing his interview with D hooker on GVX, I really like the guy and hope he can get some action this year.
If you got time its worth listening to.

I see what you're saying but some of you "experts"(not pointing fingers at you) on here think you have to play high classfication ball to become an SEC stud or NFL player. Total BS...Martin Westview (600 student school in West Tn.) has 2 former Vols in Clifton and Harrell on the Packers now.

Where these coaches screw up on these guys is they get too caught up in 40 times, vertical, etc. and don't get inside their head and heart to see if they really like playing football.

I didn't realize Chris had been moved to DE. This coaching staff has impressed me so far in evaluating talent and putting guys in the right position. That could be a really good move for him. I know Chris Walker is a beast now, and he really didn't do much at LB, IIRC.

CPF staff moved him to DE. Before the 07 Cal game

Yeah, but I thought Donald was moved back but Walker stayed. Didn't Donald go into spring and fall camp as a LB? If not, the pillow must have been huge.

i dont think cb is a bust i think the lack of past
coaching did not give him the chance to show his talents

motivation. many kids arrive to campuses all across the country with talent but lack the motivation and desire to compete and play at the college level. That has been the knock on Chris. That was with the previous staff and is still true with this staff. He was moved in the hopes of firing up some motivation.

Chris is not the only kid on this team that doesn't put out what is expected to get to play at the college level. Desire and effort on the part of less talented players, puts a lot of more talented players on the bench because the talented kids don't provide same efforts. Some are just not cracked up to the time and effort to play at this level. If Chris gets it some day, he may produce. If he doesn't, he will have a chance for his degree.

It is obviously in this case, not a previous staff problem.

Chavis also tried Donald at DE. It didn't work out

The big thing with Chavis's defenses were that the DEs had contain responsibility first then rush the passer. In this defense the DEs are told to go get the QB. Donald may end up being a terror off of the edge.

we will see. he is going to have to show a lot more desire to convince these coaches he is ready to play

I hope he can do well at DE. As I have said in another thread...it's not his fault that he was grossly over rated as a high school player. He was a good player on very, very good talent leaden 2A team as a freshman and sophomore. This put him on the radar, along with the fact that he was listed at 6'3" 220# as a high school freshman. According to the official Tennessee roster, he has shrunk 2 inches and only gained 5 pounds since he was 14 years old. Again, not his fault. Lots of kids physically mature at an early age, but not many have the benefit of being a part of a state championship/state finalist team their first 2 years in high school...and coaches who pad their physical characteristics.

I hope he can bust out at DE.
