Chris Donald Overrated?

I too am a big fan of CD. Part of the problem last year was he was overhyped, and the other overhyped guy, Eric Berry...was in actuality, not overhyped, therefore I along with other fans were asking, "What's wrong with CD, look at what Berry is doing." I really hope this young man stays (Iwas afraid he might say screw it and leave for greener pastures after Jan. bowl game). I still believe he will be a good one when all is said and done. GO VOLS He does have 4 years eligibilty, correct?

I'm sorry rex, but reading this thread made me feel sorry. Its a question on the borderline of legitimacy. And I'd prefer that when someone does dare to beg such questions, that their persuasion would not be built entirely on bs examples and rumors.

Seriously, personal e-mail? Unless it has been exposed publicly or addressed to you, it has no merit worthy of mentioning.

Everyone know that Nick Reveiz walked on and is now 2nd string behind Ellis Wilson at MLB, guess where Donald is on the depth chart?

GV182, you totally whiffed on what I was saying. The depth chart is definitely not a rumor. And Ellis Wilson is not our starting MLB. He is a figment of our imagination.

Remember Berry played so much out of necessity. He was not a starter at the beginning of the year. The secondary suffered many injuries and had depth problems. Berry proved to be a player when he got on the field. Donald was behind a lot of proven players at linebacker and was moved to end in an attempt to get his athletisism on the field. Give him time to earn his playing time and then we will see his ability.

Technically he was, because we ran a nickel package the first play of the game, therefore, he has started every game of his career so far.

You have to start wondering if he was overrated because of the weak competition he played against. Shouldn't a 5 star guy, even as a redshirt freshman, be able to beat out a walk-on to be a back up?

It is the people who own these services that think they know what talent is. I would bet if you performed a blind study of a list of players with these so called gurus you would come within 5 percent of their rating. It is a farce that they actually charge people for their info and you really have to wonder about the people that pay for it. When it comes to signing day I know just as much about our recruiting class as anyone who subscribes to a service.

If we went by info from Brent Hubb's Volquest or Scout, UT would have never taken Shawn Bryson, Scott Galyon, Charles McRae, Bruce Wilkerson, Raynoch Thompson, J.J. McCleskey, or Dennis Rogan.

I can still hear Hubbs saying he did not think that Rogan was big enough to play in the SEC. And wasn't there a rumor that he would never have the grades.

Another example of these services on the take is the recruiting magazines. Most of them are full of players you will never see on the field.

I do think that one criticism of our coaching staff is that since the mid-nineties we have been focusing on the star system to harvest the crop and not taking good solid talent like those mentioned above.

it takes time to learn to play in the box. These kids come in and have to learn all the mental aspects of the defense and they are now competing against men. Most of them may be 20 to 23 years old and played in the SEC wars for a few years. Technique and strength are important were as talent alone can get you on the field if you play in space. Don't mean theres not a mental and technique side to playing in space, but talent is talent and if your not having to go hand and hand in combat you can get on the field quicker if you can get the mental part down.

Robert Meachem may have been a redshirt Junior, but it was only because he injured his knee in fall practice his true freshman year. In fact, during camp he was the best receiver on the field as a true freshman and would have likely been a starter as a true freshman. The knee injury set him back at least 2 years in his college career IMO.

As some of you on here think that you know about C.D.He was buried in the depth, nor did a walk-on beat him out!!! He WAS moved to D/E to help out there. Well guess what we lost MAYO,and the staff said,OH NO !! So he is back at L/B and is ready to hit the field. We will see a lot of Donald this year. You cant depend on Hubbs,or people like Adams from KNS.You just need to talk to someone with the inside track, like say his roomy, they do get out and talk to people !! This is just like saying J. Lewis was a bust because a didnt score more than 17 t.d.s'.

Jamal Lewis was a bust cause he didn't have 18 td's. If he had 18 he would've been good. O well, maybe we can get a better RB someday...
