from what I keep reading in various outlets is that he was vastly overrated coming out of HS. That unrated guys like Reveiz or lower ranked prospects like Frazier are way beyond him right now. Im as bad about it as anyone, but this should be a reminder to us all that Rivals/Scout/Superprep, etc are not always spot on. I had high hopes for CD and Im not given up on him. I have also read about references to a supposed e-mail sent by Ryan Karl in which he mentions that CD still trys to play like HS and simply overpower people with strength and speed. That he needs to appreciate the need for technique. I dont know if this is a real e-mail or not, but if it is, it illuminates how important coaching is on this level.

Give him another year. It's not like he plays a position where you can come in and start as a scrawny kid who runs fast and has good hands.

Rex, I wouldn't pay much attention of VFF over on VQ. Donald is going to be fine and will contend for ALL-SEC before he leaves, IMO. Too many people give up on recruits anymore and early at that. Did anyone expect Rogan to do what he did this past season?? Obviously the rankings system on any recruiting site is one for discussion, but labeling someone a bust or overhyped after one season under their belt is a bit asinine. If he hasn't done anything by his senior year, then we'll talk.

Yes I know people are saying he is overrated but we just need to give him some time. Its not like hes Daniel Brooks. Donald is a good kid, works hard, and has done all the right things thus far. It is a big jump going from small high school ball to the SEC. He may not end up being the best LB in America like everyone thought but I still think he has NFL potential and can be a very good player here. That is evident just from watching his HS film. He is a ferocious hitter, has good instincts, and outstanding closing speed. You can't teach those things. Just give him some time to work on technique and his mental part of the game. Remember Robert Meachem was a redshirt Junior before he lived up ti his hype. Some guys take longer than others, but I am confident in guys like them who have all the tools and are dedicated to being successful.

He's just a sophomore, there is no way to call a guy a bust when he only has had 2 years at this level. He played 2A football in West Tennessee, he had no equals on the field. He didn't have to learn how to play because he was bigger, faster, and stronger than anybody that could go head to head with him. He was a man child at that level. Give him a chance.

He reminded a lot of people of a player that played high school ball about 15 minutes down the road. Coach Fulmer couldn't just let someone like that go again.

He's a redshirt freshman.

My first post will be to call this post ridiculous.
Why even ask the question not only is he 2nd year player but he has had to switch positions. Jesus - what about Ahmad Paige how come he hasnt caught a TD pass yet.

I understand the frustration. This question is less about actual ability and more about the hype CD received. A lot of which was brought on by the recruiting process itself.

CD is always going to be a tweener. I don't know if he is actually fast enough to be a middle linebacker in a Chavis defense or big enough to play DE.

I do agree that in time it should sort itself out.

He switched to DE last year for depth, but didn't even play. He's now back at MLB. Both were redshirted.

Where are all these "references" and "outlets" you speak of? Why the heck would there be this much speculation concerning an unproven underclassmen? It is dumb to rate him at this point in time. Next thread, "Is Taureen Poole" under/overrated?

considering he was a much ballyhooed 5 star recruit and is now buried behind a walk-on then I would say that merits concern. Why you are questioning sources on an internet message board is beyond me.

I think its too early to tell. I think Donald will step up soon enough and be a playmaker... Not every freshman can be like Eric Berry ;)

I'm sorry rex, but reading this thread made me feel sorry. Its a question on the borderline of legitimacy. And I'd prefer that when someone does dare to beg such questions, that their persuasion would not be built entirely on bs examples and rumors.

Seriously, personal e-mail? Unless it has been exposed publicly or addressed to you, it has no merit worthy of mentioning.
