Defensive tackle
Mansfield (LA) Mansfield
Ht: 6-foot-3
Wt: 320 lbs
Forty: 5.27 secs
Vertical: 22 inches
Shuttle: 5.03 secs
Class: 2009 (High School)

No. 18 overall players in the nation, #4 DT prospect. He could easy turn into a 5* during the next ranking update.

His head coach said he is a very intense player who could turn out to be really special if he concentrates on one area/position. He plays basketball and also gets snaps on the OL, says the head coach. Offers from: Alabama, UNC, LSU, Minnesota, BC, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. There isn't a leader right now, he says it's wide open.

The coaches better be busting their ass for this kid. :)

Those of you out there calling for the 3-4 better pray for this guy. Seems like a perfect NT. hopefully he wants the leave the state.

At 320lbs I would say that is moving pretty good. At DT it really isn't that big of an issue anyways.

Glenn Dorsey at LSU ran a 5 flat forty but was only 293lbs at the time. I think we can agree he did a pretty good job.

I personally can not stand the 3-4 D but with the linebackers we seem to recruit don't we have guys that would fit that mold? Not advocating just asking the simple question.

The 40 is moot.

I would think a 3-4 Def would work great with the LB's we have along with the ones we have coming in. Especially since we are thin on the D. Line. But, the coaches know more than I do, or at least I would like to think so. There must be a reason why they don't go to it.

You would need two linebackers who could take on o-linemen to keep your outside linebackers clean so they can take on the r-back on run plays. Plus that would mean an adjustment with the rest of the defensive scheme. Do we even have two linebackers capable of taking on big men from the o-line?

I never understood this arguenment, since I have always heard well we don't have LBs whom can take on OL. Then WHY do we always seem to be converting high school LBs into DEs if they can not take on a college OL.

Recent memory is Ayers, C. Walker, G. Williams, and probably Marlon Walls.......if they are big enough to put their hand down they ALREADY are taking on an OL.

A good point was made on the radio yesterday, about us not taking alot on the DL this past year. We did take 4 DEs the prior year, and unfortunately ONE qualified...so it isn't for a lack of trying. If we had Hall, Sykes, Rufus, and Gerald W.. we would not be worrying this season.

I want to recruit guys who actually WANT to go to school as well as play football.

Going to a 3-4 would also mean safeties playing a bigger role in run support which they have had plenty of experience with last year.

You also need ends in the 3-4 that can stop the run, because the outside LBS are the pass rushing guys. We have a ton of guys who can play OLB in 3-4 but no ends or tackles.

Maybe if you rub your UT class ring real hard, you can understand.
