Zephyrs second baseman Chris Burke has been called up to the Houston Astros, the Zephyrs learned on Sunday [July 4, 2004].

The Zephyrs were also informed that they will receive pitcher Jeremy Griffiths, who was originally called up to replace Astros pitcher Wade Miller.

In his fourth season of professional baseball, Burke has had a breakout season in 2004, his first at the AAA level. This season, Burke has hit .325, with 10 home runs and 35 RBI. Burke also led the Zephyrs in stolen bases with 21, almost double the next closest base stealer.

Burke steps in for Astros second baseman Jeff Kent, who is not on the DL, but has missed the past four games after injuring his hamstring.

Griffiths returns to the Zephyrs after starting and playing in one game with the Astros.

On July 3rd, Griffiths pitched 4.1 innings, giving up four hits and five runs. After coming over from the New York Mets organization in a trade, Griffiths has started two of three games he has played in. He is 0-1 and has a 3.86 ERA. Griffiths has also struck out 10 batters.
