Not sure Staley would agree and it's probably be hard to keep him off the field. But I don't dislike having Smith or Jackson as an end. Set up in a 10 p with Brazzell-Matthews on one side Braley-Smith would be interesting to see. But then the TEs might not like it, hard to please all that talent.

Staley needs to get on the practice field and make some noise. Haven't heard much about him this fall camp.

When you have 7 scholarship WRs, all but 1 are in the 2-deep. I’m guessing that 1 is Dodson, so yes.

My question is why do the football players always have suspended licenses? It's not hard to stay in good standing. It really isn't. If any of them get pulled over, a suspended or expired license is a given.

I was thinking about our wide receivers and how to get the best three on the field. I think it makes sense to play Matthews in the slot. I know he played there some in preseason last year, although he has been an outside receiver since. Maybe he has played it some in the closed portions of practices.

But think about it. Travis Smith at this point is probably one of our three best receivers. Jackson may be the fourth best. So put Smith and Brazzell on the outside and Matthews, who is smaller than those two, in the slot. That’s a pretty talented group. Jackson and Staley are 4th and 5th WRs.

Not a bad option.

I think with Brazzell he’s obviously talented but he doesn’t project toughness at WR. Smith was a man child in Atlanta last season.

Play Smith , Matthews in the slot, and Brazzell or Jackson on the outside. Let Stalely rotate everywhere and use Jefferson at Wildcat/slot/ power running plays.

I just feel like Brazzell is moving away from the PHYSICAL nature this offense wants to take on.

One thing to keep in mind, though (and this was discussed when Heupel was hired), Heupel likes a variety of WRs in his offense. So if he’s got a big strong WR on one side, a jitterbug/quick guy in the slot, and a tall, fast, lanky, body control guy on the other side, he’s got his variety. That pretty much describes Smith, Matthews, and Brazzell.

Another thought would be to have Smith and Matthews on the outside and Brazzell in the slot. That takes Brazzell off the LOS and makes him less susceptible to physical press coverage. If lack of physicality is the concern with him, that is. Worked with Hyatt.

That would be ideal as well.

I think when you look at what we have at TE, RB and the depth of Oline- we have to be a power running team that heavily throws to the TEs

Shrink the field and no need to really play fast.
Our defense is much deeper so it’s not like having a fast offense hurts them like in 2021 , 2022.

Of course though we still need to feed Matthews just make the freshman be physical and earn their catches that way. I think it speeds up their development at the position.

I think we’re a playoff team if we use the TEs more than the WRs. I think if we try to force the WRs to grow up we’re going to end up 7-5.
