Let's review...

We fire Fulmer with no plan and get Kiffin.

Kiffin leaves, we have no plan. We get Dooley.

We fire Dooley with no plan and get Butch.

Each time I've heard "don't worry, whoever we hire can't be worse." Yes it can, it can always get worse.

So this time let's have a plan. Let's write the new guy's press release before we hit send on the fire butch press release. Let's look like a well organized institution instead of a bunch of inbred redneck couch burners.

If we do it, for the first time since Majors, let's do it right.

FTR, Butch is a huge improvement over Dooley.

Hey! Wait a minute. I don't burn couches, I re-cycle them for the front porch.

We do it wrong because we hire average then expect great.

UT needs to decide if it wants to be great or average in college football. Leadership at the university, up to this point, is quite happy with average.

Yep. Doesn't help that a lot of the fanbase is happy with average as well, as long as it's "better than Dooley"

I am kinda on the fence about this. On one hand we are not gonna get a super successful coach to leave a program they built but there is quality coaches out there who would come here. On the other hand I really don't have faith in the people who make the hire and money people behind it to get those coaches.
I don't know for sure they would even hire Blackburn as AD.( would love to see him here btw)

You seem to have missed the small fact that the program has gotten better under Jones, not worse. Yea, this season took a disappointing turn, no doubt--but the reality is that Jones as /demonstrably improved the program./ And he has qualities that are very good for this program--he loves the school and he can recruit.

Your notion that we just need "a plan" and suddenly some brilliant coach will take over and start winning national championships is not aligned with reality. The only plan any AD can have is to have a list of two or three coaches who he thinks would be good to hire. But having a list and getting them are two very different things. LSU had a plan to get Herman, but Herman didn't have lsu in his plans. Circumstances change daily. There aren't great coaches sitting by their phones today hoping for a call from Hart. And even if you get a coach you think might be good--it often doesn't work out. Look at ND with Kelly now; look at Texas. Bama spent 10 years going through coaches before they emptied the school's pockets to hire Saban. In sum, your comment is naive--and besides, we should not only keep Jones but give him steady support.

Those dummies at LSU did it wrong. They should have had their man before canning Les. They are in trouble now.

I agree, the hire they do make may be worse than what we have. Check their stats, lol
If I had more faith in them maybe I could say "farh Butch" but not yet.

I was at Hooters in Gulf Shores during the Bama game. I had on old Bama fan tell me you have to spend the money for a coach. He said if Bama had not hired Saban they would be in the same place we are right now and he is right.

We hire second tier coaches because administration won't spend the money and the fans pack the house every game. Administration is happy with mediocrity.

Money is there. I've been with the VolsVols since the early 70s and a Vol Alum.

It's sad where our program is and has been the last 15 years.

Butch is either the answer or he's not. If he's not (which should be obvious by now) you don't just keep him around anyway because you're afraid we might do worse. That's ludicrous.

On the contrary, firing the hc without having a better replacement lined up is ludicrous.

Do we really want to talk about firing CBJ even though our AD is gone in 8 months? Do you trust Hart would make the best decision for UT on the way out?

The way you chose a new HC is the same way you run your life or a business. You decide the traits or qualities required and list them in order of priority. Then you obtain your budget. Often what you find is once you know the dollars to spend, some of those items listed start getting tossed overboard. Our problem at UT is and has been after the Majors hire which begat Fulmer, we want a national championship type coach but only willing to pay for a no name take a chance on me guy. We are getting what we have been paying for IMO hoping one of our low ball guys will blossom into a NC type of guy. Basically that's taking your kid's milk money and betting it on 12 on the roulette wheel in Vegas, which is why we are getting the results we have with Kiffin, Dooley, and now Jones. We either need to be the type program we say we are, elite and championship caliber, and open the checkbook and get someone in here who will produce OR be Tulane, Mississippi State, or other Southern subset of power Southern football pretending we're relevant when we're not. Scale back Neyland to 60K seats, and forget about it, just quit the %$#@ing around pretending and taking people's money under false pretenses.

At least we didn't fire a NC coach with one of the highest winning percentages in all of football to hire....Coach O.

I always thought that Kiffin would have had success had he stayed but the Dooley hire I was always dumbfounded by. Butch is a great recruiter but he nor his staff develop the talent they get. Jones has proven he isn't cut out for football at this level and the best thing for Tennessee and for Jones is to part ways sooner rather than later. I'll pull for him to win as long as he's coach but I just don't see a silver lining in all this.

The problem is, he's recruiting like Dooley now.. The future is not looking bright compared to the rest of the league.

Sadly, letting Hart hire another head coach for any team is a huge mistake. We have to wait it out and hope we get a competent AD. I don't like it but given the conditions that's the best course.

Its is looking like he is not the answer but its not having a better option lined up and picking from the same pile you got Butch from thats ludicrous.
Do some of you really think the people in charge are gonna do it different this time. If you fire him right now they will will be the ones doing it.
P.S.- There are more worse options out there than better ones right now.
