Chip Kelly.

I really hope Derek Dooley does well. I personally like the guy. I think he has the smarts to make it work BUT if it does not work out somebody has got to be hired in his place. Who would you guys like to see? I think Chip Kelly would do great here. We need some offensive spunk and creativity. We have lacked that for a while now and we just do not have the hosses up front to pound the ball like Alabama does. Their offense is very methodical and it works for them simply because they have superior athletes. I sure hope Dooley does not bring that mind set to here. We just do not have the players to make it work. I personally like spread offenses. It has worked really well for Florida and numerous other schools.

That is exactly his mindset. He's one of those " use what's tried and true" kinda coaches.

One thing a lot of people aren't realizing though, is Chip Kelly really hasn't had to do much outside of managing disciplinary issues. The Oregon offense has long been installed and maintained by Mike Belotti until recently and Kelly is just using what's already there. Wait until they've lost a lot more of their current offensive players before you jump on the coach of the year campaign. I too love his demeanor as a coach, but I'm thinking he's more Les Miles than Urban Meyer.

Coach Derek Dooley is going to make some of you "people" look like fools in a few shorts years.

You'll be praying that no one hires him away.

I'd love to have Chip Kelly. I think the spread is the way to go in college football. But I highly doubt he'd leave. Hes got Nike, Phil Knight, and hes doin pretty damn well there. V,B

We are doing Dooley a favor. He has already overstayed his welcome. I say if hammy wants to keep his job then he needs to fire Doolittle and throw the warchest at gruden or Kelly.

This is crazy talk! Three head coaches in three years is the reason we are down! I dont even want to think about a new coach for a while! We need stability in the system we run and the coaching staff that teaches it! Everything will come together in a few years! It sucks waiting, but there is nothing any of us can do about it!!!!

If and/or when Derek Dooley is not successful here at Tennessee, what are the chances that we go after Chip Kelly as our next head coach? Do you guys think he would leave Oregon for Tennessee, and how do you think he would do in the SEC with his explosive offense? After watching him last year, and the first 3 games of this year I am very impressed with his offense as well as how he conducts himself on and off the field. I think, with Tennessee's tradition, recruiting resources, and facilities (not to say Oregon's facilities aren't good) he would be quite successful as the head man in Knoxville. Just a hypothetical question for fun. Would like to know your thoughts on him. Thanks!

So let me get this straight, Chip Kelly is going to leave a top 10 team, a conference he could own sooner rather than later, and Papa Knight's money, and all that it does for recruiting, to come to us? Not gonna happen.

Saban lost to UAB his first year at LSU, and he lost to Louisiana Monroe his first year at Bama. I bet those places wish they had run him off after a year. We got outplayed and still got the win. Get real. This should not even be a topic of discussion for several years. That is just the way it is right now. This is a good staff. Look for small improvement week to week. Look for bigger jumps year to year. It is going to take time. But constant improvement is all you ask from these young players.

I think this thread brings up a valid point. I agree with OP that we should at least get a list of successors. But i want to take it a step further. Supposing that Chip Kelly, hired of course, goes on to two mediocre seasons (in a row). Loses to Alabama and Fla both years. And/or is caught on Kingston pike with his panties down around his ankles in the car with Josh Briscoe (coincidentally). Who do we look at then? I think the successor at UGA year after next is going to be Buck Belew. I think the irony is clear that a guy named Belew succeeds a guy who was in a car with Josh Briscoe doing a certain act on Kinston Pike.

I think this is all relevant.

no amount of money could get Kelly from Oregon to Tennessee

Was unsure what the deal on him was. I wish Hamilton could have emptied the bank to get him last year but I'd bet his interest in us would have been zero.

He's a good coach no doubt, it'd be interesting to see how he'd fit in here.

No chance if Dooley doesn't make it!!! Better hope CDD makes us proud or we could be in for the twenty year Bammer slide. You can't fire a coach in year two or three and expect anyone else to take the job or any recruits to sign with the Vols. Instability will crush a program, and this f----- up fanbase we have now may make sure thats the end result. Bunch of crybaby, never done anything whinners. Leave CDD alone and

support or don't, but STFU!!!!! Now I feel better! GO VOLS AND CDD!!!

And the OP is an idiot for even bringing this **** up,F'IN LOSER!

And by the way Oregon's (Nike) facilities are probably one of only a handful that are better then the Vols!!!

Wow. A little sensitive are we? Unbelievable.

Were replacing him already?

No. It was just a hypothetical question. I did not realize how sensitive the guys on this site actually are. I brought up a topic for discussion and got reamed. It's amazing how sitting behind a computer makes some of these boys feel 8 foot tall.

I don't think Kelly would leave Oregon....I don't think we'd pursue him anyway....it would be interesting to see how he'd do in the SEC though
