Chip Kelly to be fired

Current SEC commissioner involved in Kelly's investigation. Tennessee also got a mention in the same investigation due to association with the bad guy. Even were Butch to leave on his own hiring Kelly seems problematic to say the least, given our previous NCAA troubles.

This the SOB! We need to put our balls on the table for.

Kelly to Tennessee?

The guy we have now is doing just fine. Am I disappointed in how the season ended. Of course. Do we need to play musical coaches? NO!

Is Butch Bob Neyland? NO!

However, we are improving and I think if we are patient good things will happen.

You don't pass on an elite level coach who can win championships unless u want t ok continue 9 and 3

Kelly will probably wind up somewhere like Arkansas, or maybe LSU if Orgeron is one and done. He'll bash our brains in a couple of times a decade and people will blame injuries and the ghost of Jalen Hurd's attitude.

I doubt Johnny would agree. At least until he was terminated.

Of course that didn't have much to do with the question. Did you back Johnny during that or did you want Phil to take over?

I've followed this conversation and I'm sure it's reading comprehension on my part, but I haven't figured out where you're going with this question. I'm curious.

I backed Johnny and was pissed Phil took over.

I'm thankful for what Phil did and respect him for it, but I never liked him because of the whole thing. In my defense, I'm loyal and I was also basing it on emotions.

Not directed at me but I'll say I wanted Fulmer all the way. Johnny came back and screwed up the season.

Funny that we ended up on opposite ends of that discussion.

Is there an elite level coach available? I thought we were talking about Chip Kelly.

Yeah, would be horrible to have a coach that's actually won an outright conference title, played in multiple BCS bowls, and oh yeah, played for and damn near won a national title.

Whew. Good thing we don't have anything like that in Knoxville...

It rolls back to 2 other conversations over the last couple weeks where a question was asked (in reference to Dooley) that unless I totally missed it got passed over.

I figured I would try it using 2 different figures and see if that would garner an answer.

My cousin and a good friend of mine played for Johnny so I hold some bias as well. I don't think it was handled very well at all but in the end Phil did a good job for about a decade. The back 3rd of his tenure help put UT in the hole they have been for all these years. The rest is pretty easy to tie together.

But none of that really had anything to do with why I asked the question.

I'm with you on this one. I don't dislike Fulmer and it's obvious UT was his dream job and I know he wanted it badly. And he was indeed a good coach and got us a Natty.

But I always hated the way we treated Majors then. And I think it was all Dickey being job scared with Fulmer in collusion. And yeah it's all just tin foil hat theory ok my part.

In my opinion you can thank Johnny Majors for getting UT back to national prominence in the modern era. Yes Fulmer led us to the Natty promised land but Majors led us from the darkness.

Man, I'm so sick of the "safe space" put-down. Reminds me of 5th grade, when we would all use the same put-down over and over until the next "cool" one came along.

Funny that we ended up on opposite ends of that discussion.

Not surprised. You're always wrong. :)

We're on opposite sides of the NFL thing too. I didn't "boycott" the NFL, but the whole CK thing turned me off. Peyton retiring was a big reason for my lack of interest this year too.

I'm also not a huge fan anyway. I seemed to invest most of my football time on Tennessee.

I'm gonna go find my safe place now. Get away from the real men.

How did they fare against SEC teams not named Tennessee? Or Stanford for that matter? That gimmick offense at Tennessee would be no better than what we have now. If we're gonna replace Jones we need a defensive minded coach.

I don't think it matters which way the HC leans as long as he has enough clout and $ to hire what he needs on that side of the ball and let's them coach. It's worked both ways for several coaches.

Some gimmicks work better than others.

Eh. Prolly a good time to let it go. If it was gonna happen it already would have

Funny how that happens.

I been practicing "let it go" lately. I've not mastered it, but I am seeing improvement.
