Chip Kelly thread (merged)

Actually it's not Spurrier who would escalate things imo. Kelly is known to be a "my way or the highway" type of coach and manager. He doesn't always play well with others and I can't imagine Steve just letting him come piss all over his rug. Suppier built Florida to a College Football power. I highly doubt him getting disrespected by a loud mouth Yankee with a big ego would set well in Gainsville

Yup. Being an assmunch makes for more difficult hiring decisions.

Spurrier was also on the on the radio and said:

"The coach we're going to hire is probably, I would almost 100 percent say, is coaching his team today, this weekend and through the end of the season, and maybe through a bowl game."

While Spurrier may not be blocking anyone, he has made his thoughts pretty clear that he doesn't believe Kelly is either coming or not high on their list for a potential HC

Steve Spurrier opens up about Jim McElwain, Florida football, Gators' coaching search | OnlyGators.com

Spurrier said that a week ago, when Frost seemed to be leading candidate. I don't know if it got aired again yesterday and it got picked up from there or not, but when he said it originally, Frost was thought to be leading candidate.

The Kelly rumors didn't start until after the interview.

Internet babble is that Gators did seek Frost's interest, and were told that he would make no decisions until after season. Less babble about not wanting any part of a $10M buyout if he takes Nebraska job in next 5 years.

Pure guess here, but with Frost unwilling to commit, I'd say Stricklin started evaluating Kelly, and that's where things sit right now.

A) that Kelly is hours away from being announced
B) that Scott Frost hasn't already been offered and he will not accept or turn down until after his bowl game. UF told him to **** or get off the pot and they moved on about a week ago.

There are snags with Kelly, one being Foley and another being Spurrier.

I certainly hope that you are correct about Florida deciding to no longer wait on a decision from Scott Frost, but can you present evidence to that effect?

A lot of Nebraska fans don't think Frost is going to come back there...They feel he will go somewhere else because of how hard it is to recruit at Nebraska...He is a born and bred Nebraska boy too but remember he didn't start playing ball there..He went to Stanford and then transferred in to Nebraska afterwards so a lot of people are wondering if he is really that attached to the huskers...I guess we'll all find out soon enough.

Being emotionally invested in Nebraska as a former player and grad is one thing, but being pragmatic about his career path is altogether different. ER Vol had this to say about Frost in another thread: "A journalist I know who writes for SI stated that Frost has been very meticulous in his coaching decisions so far. Also that he doesn't look at Nebraska as a very viable option as some just assume he would. He said that Frost would take the UT job over Nebraska and that it's not always best to "go home." He gave the examples of Pat Dye and Vince Dooley among others. He also said that among the young up and comers, that Frost and Campbell were far and away the best choices."

Is there any info if Tennessee has atleast reached out just to see if he would be interested. John Gruden’s great but I just don’t believe he’ll come here until it actually happens.

I hope no one has contacted Chip Kelly...

Sounds like similar qualities to Butch without the coaching success.

Chip Kelly at Philly was the perfect job for him. I loved what he accomplished there. I really wish he was still there.

I was really happy with his work at San Fran too!!!😬

He took over an 0-12 team.
Sure they don't play a tough schedule..... But they have those same type players....not players like Mich or Georgia has.

Also a resume is much more than his 2 years as HC......his goes all the way back to his playing days.

Same can be said for Mullen who wins 9 plus games about every year just sayin

Kelly will be at UF next year. He wasn't good enough for TN though. Currie will look like a fool when Kelly beats TN down by 30pts+ every game. But TN sure will have the most integrity and the best morals of anyone else, Moral Victory U!!

WNML states the obvious that UF and UCLA were in discussion but cited a football scoop article (driving and don’t wanna look it up) that there was a 3rd unnamed team in negotiations with Chip. Could it be the Vols? He fits all of Curries criteria.

Everybody was going nuts thinking our delay firing Butch would let the gators nab Kelly yet he sits there unsigned. UF, UCLA, UT...are all open but he's a free agent. Might just be sexton playing a waiting game to see how all the open jobs line up so he can place his guys in the best spots for them or Kelly has his sights set on a return to the NFL? Maybe he's waiting on A&M? Regardless, I don't see him at UT. He's not a good fit for our program based on what I've read. We should get a bit better read by this weekend on Mullen though. If it's UF or UT, we should see a move by Sunday since the egg bowl is tomorrow night. If there isn't, I suspect he's staying put at MSU. Then it's on to the other candidates. Just speculation.

Sure hope so but I wouldn't be surprised if aTm or Arkansas are negotiating behind the scenes.
