Chip Kelly on Neyland Experience

VN, quit kidding yourself with imposters like Chip Kelly. Offer Bob Stoops $16/mil a year and be done with this.

:)
I think it would, Florida would have the worst D in the SEC! Also please remember when Oregon beat us, it was Dooley’s last year & Jones’ first year...

Dooleys team was leading them or tied at the half, think of that the worst team UT has had in modern era was playing toe to toe with Chip's Oregon team before the rain fell and UT lost their MOJO with Dooley wearing Orange pants:)

:eek:lol:

Where did all those TS for LVHC go? Gosh, you had to endure that rediculous notion every 6th post while enduring a thread of fhar Holly every 3rd post. Then the baby gets announced and those people vanished. I mean vanished like something from one of those mystery shows! :eek:hmy:

Alabama even runs the spread these days. So does David Cutcliff at Duke.

Yes, correct. But, I think the notion that Biopsyman is bringing is legit. In order to sell HS kids on a trip to the NotForLong league, it helps to run a scheme that shows a nice transition. That keeps the talent flowing in.

People ask all the time ... "why don't more people run the GT offensive scheme"? They do more with 2-3* players. True, but the reason they are doing it with 3* (generally of course) players, is because the elite rated players are looking for a better course to the NomoreFansLeague.

Fashioning your program as a farm system for the NFL has it's value IMHO.

The spread that bans runs is a different version and mindset than Kelly plus the hurry up and tempo is different. Add in the fact that bama has bruising type backs and the O line and you have a totally different dimension of this so called spread/hurry offense. They are not even close. The RPO version of the quarterback and being an athlete is similar. We won't even discuss the difference in defense and their ability to by physical as compared to Kelly's version of defense where you simply outscore your opponent. If Kelly was able to adapt as some have mentioned then he didn't show that ability on a NFL level. Comparing apples to oranges.

I can see that. Although, I don't judge college coaches on NFL an NFL resume'. They are truly different jobs. College is a hybrid player developer/youth pastor/XO coach/coach manager/program caretaker/PR/GM job, while the NFL is more specialized XO coach/coach manager/PR guy only. Jones', for example, has been tremendous in every way at UT, except XOs IMO.

Kelly is a mystery, where in the NFL, he ran yet another pro scheme. I was actually interested in seeing what he could do with the spread/tempo at that level. But, it never was tried. It's about like the Jets getting Tebow. Tried basically nothing to highlight his unique skillset.

I would love to see some pro guy like Kelly get about 4-5 dual threat QBs like Tebow, Dobbs, Manziel etc and just try that crazy spread tempo at that level. Knock out the QB? Just roll in another one and keep playing. Then again, I have a day job and not millions on the line when we go 2-14! :-o

Let's get the Chucky Rumors started again, I could have actually gotten on board with Gruden. I mean him coming to Tennessee is a lock, he coached there and his wife was a freaking cheerleader at Tennessee. How much more Orange does it get? Gruden is definitely coming this time!

I said it back then, and I'll say it again. He's got it made now, he would have to work. Do you think he wants to go all over the country and visit these kids and their parents?

Yeah he would never give up the gig he has now. Inherited a Super Bowl caliber team and now he is A Champion of Life.

Where did you get your information?

Kelly's D's in his career at Oregon gave up and average of 21 points....while scoring 45+.

Kelly ran the spread with a bunch of RPO's....they were consistently toward the top of the nation in plays, and near the bottom in time of possession. This is why so many of you think they don't run "power football" or run up the mid. The offense was designed to the score quickly, but most of their runs were in fact between the tackles.

There is a huge difference from scoring quickly and not running with power.

Also look at the teams who have beaten Bama over the past several years......yea they ran RPO's very good.

I have fairly limited experience for other college stadiums. I will say this though Neyland is exactly what Kirby said its Loud,Loud,Loud. Last year I was at Sanford when UGA thought they had us beat. Even at the highest of highs for them it wasn't that bad. During the OK game a couple years back it was straight up deafening at Neyland. It was my wifes first game up there. No joke she said she thought she was going crazy it was so loud.

If it's ever necessary to replace our coach (don't see it happening), Jim Bob Cooter will be hired. The God's have spoken :)

Chip Kelly "drives by Neyland stadium frequently"? I think this is a quote from Chip Kell (former Tenn guard) not Chip Kelly (former Oregon coach).
