Chip Kelly "Haven't gotten a call yet"

You really need to do some reading and research on the whole situation that earned Kelley the show cause. Even the NCAA said the he had no knowledge of the situation.

And his defenses averaged giving up 22 points a game, in a conference that is known for scoring. Held Auburn way under their season average with Cam at QB.

Your just repeating what you have heard everyone else regurgitate.

You are deluding yourself if you think the NCAA gives coaches a "Show Cause" penalty to someone who did little or nothing wrong. This is reserved for MAJOR violations, period. If they said he had no knowledge of the situation then they apparently considered that there was a lack of control over a situation he should have known about. This is the most significant penalty they can give a coach for violations, and they do not do this lightly.

The NCAA themselves stated several times that Chip Kelly did not commit any violation. The NCAA also stated their investigation concluded that Chip had no knowledge that an employee of the recruiting service had committed the violation. Oregon was given probation for 3 years, and they had to forfeit 2 scholarships over 2 years (one each year). Because Chip was the head coach, and left for the NFL, he was given an 18 month show cause. Chip gave no excuses and took full blame. After the USC fiasco the NCAA wanted to hold head coaches more responsible. Some coaches were leaving a program and leaving that program on the hook so to speak. Chip got the show cause because the NCAA has changed how they do things.

Should Chip and Oregon have been punished......sure, and they were; however the punishment and crime (violation) was not a huge deal......just look into it (also the NCAA knew punishment was never going to keep Chip from coaching, as he was in the NFL at the time); they just wanted to now hold coaches accountable and they did.

And cheated to do it, which is why he got a show cause penalty.

You are so wrong.

"As the NCAA made clear, Kelly committed none of the violations himself"

“Throughout this process, there has been speculation and innuendo regarding the nature and severity of potential violations, much of which was unfounded,” Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens said in a statement. “As stated by the NCAA Enforcement Staff, the violations committed in this case were unintentional.”

"The infractions committee found that Lyles provided cash and free lodging to a prospect, and engaged in impermissible calls and off-campus contact with prospects, their families and high school coaches."

(this guy was part of a recruiting service which Oregon used......which was legal. The guy gave a prospect less than $200 spending cash and free room and board while on an evaluation visit to the Huston recruiting service. The prospect was from a poor family and did not have the resources for the trip......this was not legal and should not have happened.....but it is FAR from what people think happened.

"If it ain't rubbing it ain't racing"
He is the the best available, he is the best available.
I am afraid it comes down to are we willing to pay for a race car or are we going to enter our up and coming Honda?

I just want the best for the vols and get back to winning.
There is absolutely no reason why he wouldn't win here. If the money is right he would come. So it's just a matter of can we/ would we make it happen.

Chip Kelly will be at UCLA next year.
Plus he runs the same offense that butch runs.

Start a new thread with another coach...

Get lost in your corn maze, the Chip Kelly thread rolls on. :salute:

What does the "same offense as Butch runs" have to do with anything?

Chip Kelly ran it well.

7 of the top 10 ranked teams right now run a form of that O........5 of the 6 teams in the playoff NC game ran a form of that O.......

so what exactly are you trying to say?

Tell that to Clemson

They beat the best team the SEC had (by far), with O, and with the same type of O Chip uses.

Yeah but that was Clemson, and just one game. If they had to play a whole season of SEC games, I don't think the outcome would be the same.

They would have been fine in the SEC last year.

Alabama was our best team by far last year -- no other SEC team managed less than four losses.

As a conference, last year's ACC was better than last year's SEC.

The problem isn't the offensive system, last year UT scored more points than ever in UT history. The problems I currently see with this team and staff are:

1. Players not respecting the coach
2. The most talented players often not getting the most playing time
3. In game coaching mistakes (though somewhat uncommon, have been extremely costly)
4. Above average attrition. Usually at most schools the guys who aren't the talent caliber required to get playing time end up transferring which results in strengthening the team, but at UT, some of our most talented recruits have left (I don't even wan't to know the number of 4 / 5*s that have transferred since 2013).
5. Damn near everything on the defense/tackling (S&C may have a factor here, but also could be a result of issue #2)
6. Below average QB play (most likely due to sub par coaching)

I like how you show an opinion when faced with a fact.

I understand your concern, but many teams in the SEC use at least a form of the O right now. Heck Bama has been using a form of that offense, Miss used it and was able to beat Bama twice (when they had the team to do it),

heck the last 5 teams that beat bama all used some form of that offense.

Correction Chip knows how to run the offense. Butch is horrible in all aspects and is more worried about GPAs then winning ballgames

This is a silly statement. Clemson would own the SEC along with Alabama. They are built just like Alabama. 4-5 star studs all over, great coaching.

All of you people saying that his offense wouldn't work in the SEC need to wake up and realize that the old gray mare ain't what she used to be. The SEC monster that you all like to pretend it is has dwindled down to one and perhaps now two teams, Alabama and Georgia. The rest of the conference has become mediocre to outright sucking.

I hear ya, and I know my comments are somewhat biased and opinionated. I just can't see it, and part of that is not wanting a second experiment in this offense. Clemson's ACC schedule from last year is below, they only lost one game. I have a feeling even Tennessee's 2016 team would have only lost 2 of those, if we got the first half of the year TN team.

Florida State
NC State
Wake Forest
Syracuse
Boston College
Pittsburgh
Georgia Tech
Louisville

They are studs and it works for them, but that is hardly the schedule we played last year.

Chip would be a huge upgrade, and I would get behind it if he came here, just me I don't see that offense staying the course long term in the SEC, or want a second experiment here.

Well, if what we are now reading is true, it may not be Chip.......not sure Peyton likes Chip too much......I just hope he likes his college coaching style.

I hear you, but really playing:
Mo
SC
KY
Vandy
and a bad FL

Should not be that hard either.....and really F ST and Louis prob better than GA and A&M (last year)

the only real difference is Bama
