Chip Kelly "Haven't gotten a call yet"

Do not want Chip Kelly!!! His stay in Kill-a-Delphia & at 49er's was horrible. He ran off DeMarco Murray & LeShawn McCoy, two very good running backs.
Also, the offense in Oregon was a gimic offense. As much as people hyped up Oregon, their defense was not SEC caliber and with their POPENT offense, they still did not win anything... Auburn beat them in the National Championship game....

Saban, Spurrier, and Harbaugh all had their struggles too. And we would've been fools not to hire any of them

It seems like a lot of the Butch sunshine pumpers are now really hoping we DON'T get a HC with a known proven winning record with conference championships and a Natty Title game under his belt. It is odd but that is the vibe many are giving. None of you know this AD and what he is capable of...Gov. Haslam already said early last week Tennessee should always be in the top 10 and in it for championships...repeated it like 4 times in one paragraph. I doubt this time they will make a lateral move...that's stupid and this isn't the Kiffin then Dooley dumpster fire...the team is in good shape NCAA wise, academically, and the roster has talent on it. So these are the reasons optimism is strong. Funny how it is completely reversed with the Butch loyalists.

I have noticed this as well. It's as if since they were wrong and had to admit their man wasn't what they said he was, they now wish we don't get the big name coach we want out of sheer spite.

Wrong. People realize we are not getting a proven top coach and will be "settling" for someone else. But keep pushing your agenda it's fun to read

I've been a member here for a while, but rarely ever post. I just want to say that this site crushed my soul back in the Gruden days. I was obsessed. I would be on here for hours just clicking refresh to see if anyone had new information. It seemed like a 100% done deal by the way people were talking on here.. That was part of the reason why I never gave Butch a chance. I hated him from Day 1. He wasn't Gruden, so to me he was unacceptable. I'm not falling into that trap again with Chip Kelly... If we get him, it will be awesome. But I'm setting the bar lower so it doesn't hurt so bad when we hire the assistant Special Teams coach from Western Mountain State Community College for the Blind.

What was wrong with the first "Chip isn't coming here" thread that you started?

Yes he is Chip Kelly. Yes he has been to a national championship. However there are a couple of reasons that make me believe he's not a good fit..(1)Even though he had an amazing and talented team at Oregon with now the titans QB Mariota, when he went up against an sec team he got thrashed..(2)There are many options out there that would be more passionate for the vols specifically the alums(etc. Tee Martin, Jim Bob Cooter)...(3)A lot of people are talking about Jon Gruden and how he could be an option. Heck, he even called coaching the vols his dream job in 2012. As vols fans we all know that it won't happen due to the underwhelming hires in the past. I say we hire Martin or Cooter and they keep what staff they want too, but I really want Albert Haynesworth as a dline coach...I mean just look at his twitter and you'll see why.

When did he get thrashed? He lost by 13 to LSU and 3 to AU in the NC. Not sure I consider that getting thrashed lol. Tennessee got thrashed by Ga last saturday.

Welcome to VN by the way! 😁

When Oregon lost to LSU, Darron Thomas was their starting QB. Yes they lost and lost by 13, but that is the worst loss in Chip Kelly's college HC career........he has never seen a 41pt loss.

Chip lost 7 games in his HC career 3 of those were by 3 points, 2 were by 9 points, 1 was by 11 points and 1 was by 13 points........Chip Kelly does not even know what it is like to get thrashed as a college head football coach.

Also you say there are more coaches that would be more passionate. So for you that would come before skills? before winning? before actual coaching? I am not a Butch fan, but he is passionate and he didn't come from Tennessee.

Your 2 choices are good coaches, and could make good college HC's............but we know Chip is a good college HC.

Well I feel like with those two options being Tenn alums they love the program already and that would reflect on the players. Especially with Tee Martin being a very successful player from UT, the players I feel like would trust him to lead them to success more than Butch or Kelly, and I now realized I was thinking of the wrong championship game, I was thinking of the playoff game in 2015..I apologize.

I realized I was thinking of the wrong game and yea we got thrashed. I was thinking of the Oregon Ohio State game in 2015. Also thanks for welcoming me!

Passion =/= Wins

If anyone was passionate it was Derek Dooley. The man wore orange pants for God's sake.

I say we send 2 hookers in UT jerseys to Bobby Petrino's house and offer him a new Harley as a signing bonus.

I think everyone understands about Martin and Cooter. I think both will be good coaches at some point.

The main prob (for me at least) is right now I think Tennessee does not need to "take a chance" on someone. I really think they need a proven coach. You can certainly still flop with a proven coach but the chances would be much less. While I think Martin and Cooter could become good/great coaches (NCAA HC) if it did not work out, things could get back to 2008-13 quickly.

Do you think he would consider us since Lamar Jackson will
most likely leave for the draft?

That is very true about 2008-13, and how it could approach very fast. I'm sure we all agree that we want/expect to be a top tier sec team. I also agree that Martin and Cooter would be a chance. The question I've been asking is Kelly the coach that could beat Saban and whoever else gets thrown at him.

During his Monday morning guest appearance on WJOX 94.5 FM radio program The Opening Drive, SEC Network host Paul Finebaum was asked to give his thoughts on where his current ESPN co-worker Kelly may be coaching in 2018.

“It’s an awkward kabuki dance every Sunday morning about 7:15 when I bump into him,” Finebaum said on the air, “because I have the same response wherever I have previously been, I say ‘Chip, I was in Knoxville yesterday, saw a lot of signs with your name on it. Anything new?’ He says, ‘Haven’t gotten a call yet.’

“I mean, I’ve talked to him. I don’t want to speak for him because I don’t know him that well… I think he clearly wants to coach. He’s up there (at ESPN) studying college football, and I do believe he will be back very quickly.”

This is absolutely unacceptable if true. How do you not at least reach out and start building a potential relationship here?

I doubt that the Administration is stupid enough to attempt to hire him.
