China's contempt for America

Most people don't seem to be aware of the game China is playing - hopefully our military and agencies involved with strategic implications are. A large container ship is currently blocking the Suez Cana, and according to articles the costs are staggering. The largest bottlenecks in seagoing shipping are the Suez and Panama Canals. The Chinese manage the Panama Canal and have a navy base in Djibouti which has the potential to block approaches to the Suez Canal. Their naval bases on built up shoals in the S China Sea threaten that area. This ability to threaten and cutoff shipping should have been nipped in the bud, but it wasn't, so the question is how to stop it before it becomes unstoppable.

Everyone knows what they're doing, but no one wants to stand up to China. Biden's not going to do it. No other country is going to do it. And militarily, there's not much we can do. Maybe with a coalition, but even military analysts say we'd most likely lose to China fighting in that region of the world.

We never should have given up control of the Panama Canal.

I really doubt that 50% of the country has a clue, or that half of congress gives a rip. What China is doing should be obvious, but I honestly think a large part of the people in government don't care enough to see where it leads ... yeah, I really think a lot of people elected and appointed to federal posts are that stupid.

Idea:
America needs to ensure open shipping. America also needs a barrier to illegal immigration.

I propose we build a canal across our southern border.

China is focused to win. Our politicians see Amerika is a bad nation. They'd prefer china to win. Our military would lose against china.

India would present a big problem to China imo.

Actually in today’s world it would be so easy to sabotage any canal or hurl a few missiles that would render them unusable on day 1

Most of our politicians where put in place with Chinese money and media. They are just sneakier than the Russians. And they have full access to our universities..

Yea. I really never see another ground war type situation among large nations. The chinese are doing quite well by infiltrating our education and political systems, feeding money to organizations to create social unrest, enslaving millions of their own people to destroy our manufacturing base, etc.

At this point you'd likely get a good 25% that would say "so what" if they were told China was taking over tomorrow.

Again, China has no incentive to block shipping lanes. They are the worlds largest importer and exporter. The legitimate fear China has is that the US could introduce sanctions and/or bottleneck shipping lanes in an attempt to not only hurt China, but any other country that the US wakes up and has a beef with.

I see you fail to mention that the US also has a presence in Djibouti and has just as many naval assets in the South China Sea as China does.

The US needs to get out of this British Empire model and start bringing these military assets back to this hemisphere. Let the Chinese, Indians, Australians, Koreans, Japanese and Gulf States sort out how shipping between the Suez and East Asia will be handled. None of the countries mentioned has an incentive in seeing those shipping lanes blocked. Only one country in the world right now would have a reason to do that right now, and it ain't China or Russia...

Why would we need to be fighting them in their backyard in the first place? What immediate military reason would the United States have to get into a war with China right now?

Biden can't stand up for anything that takes more than 10 minutes

India, Australia, South Korea, and Japan could just as easily counter China as the United States could. It is in those countries' best interest to begin to work towards doing that.

If only we had negotiated a transpacific partnership. One that excludes China from its leadership. We could call it TPP.

oh wait, we did once. sighhh
