McCat, does that Rupp DVD advertised on the link you gave address why UK fans have such a cultish devotion to the memory of a drunken bigot?

Actually, it addresses the bigoted perception that most non-UK fans have of Rupp. It comes out at the same time as the Glory Road movie, which is a slur toward Rupp.

Cultish devotion? Hardly.

How is Glory Road a slur on Rupp? They even left out the fact that Rupp told the media that Don Haskins recruited David Lattin out of prison, a blatant lie. Rupp gets off easy compared to what he really deserved. The only redeeming quality I can find about the guy is that Pat Riley respected him. Rupp built his record at a time when nobody else in the SEC gave a flip about basketball. The inescapable fact is that Rupp was a bigoted bully who beat up on inferior competition. Look at his record after Ray Mears came to Tennessee and schools started to integrate their programs, it's nowhere near as impressive as it was during the lily white, racist days that Rupp so loved.

You're right. The mere mention of Rupp's name tends to make me apoplexic. McCat is a solid poster and a credit to UK fans.
