Cheering For BGSU

Many BG fans appreciate the support and I extend the same to all Vols fans, I hope you guys run the table this season and enter in the playoff conversation. The BG fans I spoke to who went to Nashville had nothing but good things to say about your fanbase and the warm welcome we received. That does not get lost on us.

Just a fun note of sorts, in 2004 BG was supposed to play Auburn but a scheduling switch ended up having BG faces Oklahoma in the opener. The Falcons lost 40-24 but BG went on to a 9-3 season and they were the factor that got Oklahoma into the BCS title game...had BG played Auburn, the Tigers would've got in. Shows how much a non-conference game can mean in the long run.

I'll be watching you guys Saturday and 6 and I hope you feel inclined to watch BG on BTN at noon.

Go Vols!

Yep. Also pulling against WKy tonight so that Vandy looks even worse.........#strategy

La Tech played them close and La Tech scored more points than Vandy in half the time. Vandy has a good defense but they can't score worth a flip.

I have nothing against BGSU and hope they do well. However, their performance the rest of the really has no bearing on UT.

No one from a bowl committee is going to point at BGSU as determining factor come November

How nervous will Vol fans be if Maryland goes out and beats BGSU by 50 on Saturday afternoon? Won't happen, just sayin

Our fans always cheer for the other teams we play. Oregon and Montana were always favorites around these parts. Unless your a SEC opponent, we pretty much got your back.

Ehh, that's not exactly true, Boca.

Folks like bowl committees and playoff committees and AP pollsters may not refer back to BGSU directly, but they will refer to the statisticians who calculate up strength of schedule as the year goes on...and how BGSU does for the rest of the season is a significant part of that (at this point, it's 100%...after the OK game it'll be 50%...and so on).

So it absolutely has bearing. The records of every team we play this season eventually will.

Please!

When your schedule includes OU, UF, UGA, Bama, Ark, & Mizzou no one is going to point to BGSU and say, "That was a great win."

Plus BGSU's overall SOS will be pretty low when November rolls around.

It's all part of a formula, Boca, it's math. Math doesn't ignore the ugly girl, it includes her just like the pretty one. They're all gonna count in the end.

I definitely will. Throughout my fan history I have followed opposing players that ball out against my Vols. Pete Mitchell of Boston College had at least one obscure fan. Dieter and Johnson are now in that weird club. :hi:

I will be watching. I hope you guys light up their secondary the same way you did ours.

They were 8-6 last season and ranked 119 according to Sagarin. BTW Vandy was ranked 120 and no one pointed to that as a quality win.

Point being, the bowl committees are going to look at what UT did against the better teams (SEC + OU) to help make their decisions. SOS isn't that important in football like it is in basketball.

No, but if they go on and win the MAC it won't be a win that people scoff at either. Now Western Carolina and North Texas on the other hand.

Probably already been said, but the better they do the better we look. If they tank then it's no longer viewed as a 'quality win'

I was torn for a while about hoping Vandy looks too bad. I would like to see Mason stay for the next 10 years. Then I realized that no coach worth a flip would sign up to be the captain of that sinking ship. #anchordown

Hopefully Johnson puts up 400 passing yards every game. That way it will make him torching our secondary not look so bad,

On more than one occasion, as Johnson was wrapped up from behind or hit, he still placed the ball perfectly on the money on deep throws that only his receivers could catch. Yes, our DBs were having to chase them from behind, but I think that's also a product of playing straightforward, man defense to not give OU any film. Again, those receivers are all transfers from P5 schools who were highly recruited, and Johnson is an NFL level QB. People are freaking out for no reason that a very good, fast paced passing attack managed to score on us while we were just trying to keep it simple. For BGSU it was a chance to knock off an SEC team, for us it was playing our cards as close to the vest as possible.
