Florida is obviously very good,
Dog gone it! I can't help it... this drives me absolutely nuts. How do we know that "Florida is
obviously very good?"
They lost practically their whole defense to the NFL, two top WR's, the top rusher, an OL and a strong candidate to replace him. They'll quite possibly start a Freshman and have 2 or 3 Freshmen play significant time on the OL. They lost a 4 year starter at QB that was known as a film room addict. As much talent as Tebow might have, he hasn't proven one thing so far... nada. Folks around here lament about all of UT's unknowns and holes to be filled... but UF has a whole defense that's a hole and new starting QB in a system that no one knows will even work in the SEC.
They return 35 lettermen. Fewest in the SEC... and three of them are the punter, PK, and long snapper.
They are 12 players short of a two deep made up of players who've actually played significant time in college.
IOW's, I don't "know" that UF won't be great... but I suspect that a team that lost as much as they did on D will not be dominant by any stretch. I don't see them running through a stretch where they get UT as that young D's first SEC test, @ Ole Miss, Aub, @LSU, @UK, @UGA, Vandy, then @ USC without losing 2 or 3 games.
I'm sorry and (as admitted) ready to be mocked if they win the East... but I just don't see it. If Meyer does pull it off though, the rest of the East needs to just mail it in until he gets ready to move on.
I think Georgia will be good again,
UGA and UT are in basically the same boat except UT was better last year. Both teams replace some of their best players and will change character on offense. UT is probably in slightly better shape defensively and much better shape on the OL.
and South Carolina only continues to get better under Spurrier.
If it weren't for the fact that their schedule just stinks... I'd pick them to win the East. They return 10 starters from a defense that got better all year last year.
But they play at UGA, UT, LSU, and Arkansas. Four of their 6 more difficult SEC games are on the road... and they still have to beat UF at the end of the season at home.
Not to mention Kentucky's actually a .500 program at the moment.
UK could be very good offensively but will probably struggle defensively.
If things fell just right though this could be their year. LSU, UF, and UT all go to UK.
