At one point I heard that UT-Chattanooga fans tore them down after they beat us in 1958 in Knoxville. I think the story is that they tore down one and then ran to the other end and got that one.

Edit: Here is a pretty good story on it. Says students tore down replacement wooden slats that were used for goalpost the next week vs Ole Miss.

This. That Oklahoma game was amazing. People saying that it didn't matter weren't at that game. The crowd rode Oklahoma the whole time and the noise/excitement caused a number of errors on Oklahoma's part. Plus it was damn fun. I remember crowds back in 1995-1998 being fun, too. It just adds to the atmosphere. And it should continue. Being sour just because you don't automatically win 12 games a year isn't much fun.

Seems like when it was invented, many questioned if we were capable. Now just two years later it's already old and worn out.

Checkering looks great. And if you believe in jinxes, you're bad luck for the Vols.

As for the 3rd down for what, when Neyland can get loud from punt to punt, kick it to the curb. As long as fans are playing quiet mouse, crank it up. For some it's not needed, it's all about education. Apparently many fans are unaware to get loud when we are on defense. But they will get up and dance to 3rd down for what.

The team should release a video via internet and play it before every home game on how to cheer.

No offense, but if we are smart enough to checker, surely those that can get loud when they have the ball will get loud.
OU was loud like it is suppose to be. The only other home game I went to last year was WCU and they don't count. Those that went to more games how were we against Ga?

Not sure there's a rule against it. They've given out shirts before for basketball games, I remember that.

I've been there each time we've done it. Everyone knows the outcomes. I'll wear all gray if we try it this year.

That's just the thing...most people paying attention to the song is dancing and not making noise. If it really created noise, they'd play it every down

1989 #12 Tennessee 21 #4 Auburn 14

Forgot this one, but remembered my uncle (Auburn alum) complaining about how often we tear down the goalposts in Knoxville.

Edit: this game was awesome. The Cobb-Webb game in the rain with a long 79 yard TD by Reggie Cobb, a 9 yard TD by Webb and total of 354 yards rushing on the day. Auburn had 2 snaps go over the punters head - resulting in 2 safeties.
