I used to be a big fan of Chavis but any more I can’t wait for him to leave UT. I hope at the end of the year he either quits or gets canned. If that happens who do you all think would be a good replacement? I would like to see O'neill Gilbert come to the hill. He is young and he does a good job with lesser talent. I know I am probably going to get blasted for this thread (especially by hat; because of my DC choice) but I figure it is Friday so oh well. GO VOLS!!

I think Chavis might retire this year. He's been hinting at it for a few years now.

Chavis has no defensive line and hasn't for some time now. He still sucks though.

Unfortunately, success or not for DC's is dependent on the D-line. A good line can make a whole defense shine. Anyone can cover for a couple seconds.

100% agreed. Give us two disruptive guys on the line. It would at least resemble the defense we had in 2005. Might be a better defense than that.

When o-lines can block us one-on-one, you have to bring 5-6 to get pressure. Unfortunately, they can pick up that pressure because they've extra blockers to spare. I want just one big DT that requires a double team

Yeah it would help. To bad that guy isn't on campus.

Florida doubled Demonte quite a lot. Demonte nearly drew a personal toward the end, he got so tired of it...

I'm not sure. That specualtion has been floating around for as long as the rumor about Gruden owning property in Jefferson/Sevier/Blount County...

UT has enough talent on the DL right now to be dominant. The problem isn't talent or position coaching. The problem is and has always been Chavis' philosophy of defense and playcalling. There are only a handful of DT's in the entire country that could simultaneously do what Chavis requires in gap discipline while also beating SEC OL's with any consistency.

Unless Fulmer is calling the defensive plays... Chavis IS a good next step toward fixing the program.

Plus... Fulmer recruits. Chavis goes to the Caribbean with Bama coaches.

Chavis should be gone after this season. his schemes and playcalling were fine before the spread and the forward pass. he has not adapted to the changes in college football the last 10 years. He has shown no ability to defense anything outside of a traditional i formation offense. His schemes leave too many areas of the field open for tight ends and slot recievers/backs that werent around 10 years ago in the sec. the play of the dline has been progressively worse every year since 2005. thats a lil on the players too. sometimes you just have to throw that tackle out of your way and refuse to be blocked. 2 much deep zone, 2 many holes all over the field, 2 many times our guys are handcuffed by the call and cant go out an play. its time chavis goes

didn't take time to read the thread but here's my opinion, Chavis blows (not good enough to suck)

Will Muschamp

There is no way he would leave Texas. We could not come close to afford to pay him what he is making out there.

All that I said was based upon him staying as a defensive coordinator (HC would make things different).

Chavis and the defense have not been the problem this year. They looked good on all but two drives in the UCLA game, they looked good for most of the UAB game, and they were not given much of a chance in the Florida game with the special teams and offensive mishaps. In fact, the defense is the only thing giving me hope that we have any chance to beat Auburn tomorrow.

We are dead last in the conference in 3rd down conversions, Chavis allowed Craft to gain confidence in the second half of that UCLA game (not just 2 possesions) and beat us, and whenever Florida needed to make a 3rd down saturday, they pretty much did (they were 8-13 on 3rd down conversions).

Nuff said. We have the talent to be one of the best defenses in the country but Chavis is stuck in the past and cannot coach against the new style of offenses UT is facing. Man I hope he retires.
