Saw this on TOS and I thought it was interesting. Everyone seems to think Dooley is a stand up guy.

"It doesn't need my stamp of approval by any stretch,'' Chavis said, asked about the Dooley hire. "But the one thing that did make me excited, as an alum, is I do think they hired a guy with great character and integrity, and that's something you can build on,
and it will make the program rock solid again.''

Always liked Chief. He is a stand up guy and coach himself... not so great on 3rd and 10 but a good person and a good overall coach.

I know Chavis had his moments but we always had a strong defense under his watch. Phil's last year as HC our offense was ranked something like 119th while our defense was ranked number 6 or so. I have nothing but respect and praise for him. I'm glad he likes our new hire because he was around enough to know what is good for UT.

I like Chavis but the program was not rock solid while he was on the staff. If Kiffin hadn't left the recruiting and level of play was headed in the right direction. The fact that the douche bag left doesn't change that.

His only problem was third and long.We had to have led the nation years in a row for people making third and whatever.

I agree, him and Failmer kill me. They act as if they had everything under control while they were spinning the rear wheels off the axles. If we continue to recruit solidly every year, instead of every other year like the skoal patrol, it'll get back to where we want it much faster. You just can't have those hit and miss years in the SEC. Especially when you have 5 or 6 SEC teams in the top ten in recruiting regularly, it's ridiculous. It was too hot in this kitchen for Kiffy and he took the easy way out.

BigPapaVol - when news of Dooley really started flying around, you made a post or two indicating your displeasure. To me, your post hinted at some off-the-field or character issues you had with him. Is that something you can expand on?

If his agent is Sexton, he should talk nice about CDD and where the program is heading.

He's likely to talk his way into a significant raise in the near future, at the very least.

I wasn't a fan of the Chief on 3rd down and late in the game either, but I give him a lot of credit for his defense when we went 5-7. Our offense was pitching 3 and outs all day long and the defense spent most of every game on the field, and still ended up Top 10. I don't want him back, but IMO he is a good DC.

i don't care what chief, cut or fulmer have to say. Why do we constantly get updates on their thoughts about tennessee?

same reason we get updates on your thoughts on tennessee. This entire site is facts, opinions, and a little bs. The title says chavis' thoughts on hire. You don't have to read it. Not being a smarta$$ just giving you a different perception.

couldn't have said it better myself. in his defense* lol, he never had a great backs coach to help him on third and 10.

We had 3rd and Chavis, then we watched the wildcat, wildhog, etc. whip Monte. Both were good coaches but had weeknesses. Choose your posion.

Yes it is. Va Tech ass whipping and the ass whipping we were getting from FL and AL in recruiting as evidence.

Four 4 stars left after Kiffin did. I don't want to defend the pr*ck but he was on the way to a top 1 to 5 class.
