i said the last 5 years and mahelona falls in that category... vinson came in as an athelete and then went to defense so hes considered a defensive 5 star

He recruited one of those if that he didn't recruit Vinson

The defense undoubtedly kept us in the game but they could have played a whole lot better. However, I think that even if the defense played a little better, we would still not come out of there with a W.
The lack of defense in the 4th is what determined the outcome of the game.

Why would we try and stop them, call timeout and 1st and 2nd down, and then drop everybody on 3rd and medium?

Sometimes it just defies all logic.

Stats can be skewed to make any argument look good. We all know our defense isn't that good, certainly not #1 in the SEC. You have to look at the teams we played when lookin at the stats.

We could look at Fulmer's overall record, and it would look pretty good. However, when you look at the last 10 years, it tells a different story, as does our bowl record, record against the top teams/coaches, etc...

This argument would have validity were I quoting defensive numbers over the past ten years.

It is what it is. I never said we had the best defense. I said it was top ranked.

What point were you trying to make by saying it? It sure doesn't prove that our defense is good.

skip it, bro. Its not worth arguing with you about.

it wasn't directed at you to begin with, but you seem to have taken it as such. It was pointed at Wolfe for saying Chavis should be fired.

Like it or not, our d was tops in the conference coming into this game. Like it or not.

If not for the defense, we wouldnt be 2-4 right now. We'd be 1-5 with a loss to NIU, but like I said, its not worth arguing about. A few here need to f'n calm down with regard to other posters with differing opinions on things.

Its pretty clear to me.

Our d was great at stopping 2nd tier teams not true caliber teams of the SEC

I don't understand how UG had so many wide recievers open. Our D-backs were constantly caught out of position, their recievers are average at best.

Brent Hubbs just gave out an interesting stat.

Tim Tebow and Matt Stafford this year have thrown for 15-20, 226 yds, 3 TDs and 1 int... ON 3RD DOWN!!!

Chavis' conservatism is an enormous probelm for a D. The ease with which teams convert 3rd down murders us.

If only we could stop every team every time on third down, the defense might be OK then. Ain't that right g8terhatereric?
