I personally thought Chavis was really good D coord. But, those 3rd down would kill me, the "3rd & Chagis" as they became called.

Anyone have any cluek why at LSU, he's been flawlessly managing that defense, on all downs?I

Don't say 5* athletes. I'm at least talking about scheme-wise.

Better players in louisiana. Easier to get the best instate recruits to stay home.

I'd say the schemes haven't changed much. He just has better players now than he had in the latter years of his UT tenure.

Never really had a problem with him other then he drove me crazy with some of his defensive play calling sometimes, but guys it's still LSwho and they will shoot themselves in the foot like they always do.

You did not want to hear it but it = Patrick Peterson and the base they have down there

If you watched the game tonight, 3rd & Chavis is still alive and well.

As stated before, with the amount of talent you could grab by just sweeping your hand in front of you down there, his job is much easier.

Usually true, but I think Crazy Les might have too much talent this year to screw it up. We will see who wins in Tuscaloosa first.

Maybe WE win in Tuscaloosa :loco:

Chavis was a top-drawer coordinator. His 2005 defense was one of the best he ever fielded especially considering how the offense that year simply fizzled when Ainge had his sophomore blues.

It's hard to say 3rd and Chavis was alive and well when MSU managed 5 first downs and six points. Ay yi yi. More myths to debunk.

Chavis did much more with less especially in 2005 and 2008 at TN. He has the big boys up front on a consistent basis at LSU which makes anyone's defense better.

one word:Fulmer. phil would get a 7 point lead in the 2nd quarter and tell chavis call the dogs off we don't want to get beat deep. i'm sure everyone remembers the mustang package, didn't see it last night. they blitzed and stayed aggressive all night. phil was the problem.

Explain Auburn's last first down in his final UT game against them.

They didn't have a 7 Pt. lead last night until the 4th quarter genius..

Onyl problem i ever had with Chavis is he didn't let Db's play up enough on the receivers. They always gave up way too much cushion. Looking at the way he's coached LSU the last couple years leads me to believe it was more to do with the talent than scheme.

Chavis was and still is a good coach, but he was hitched to Phil's wagon and that wagon broke a wheel.

I don't know about you guys but I saw an LSU team that looked very beatable last night.. They hung in there all 4 quarters and that won the game for them.. I doubt TN will have any run game against that fast defensive front but I saw a team with some major holes in the backfield.. Justin Hunter and Da'Rick would of had a field day out there.. Key to the game will be the same as it will be against FL.. PASS PROTECTION!!!

LSU has the db's to match with our receivers. One team that matched up very well with what we do, unfortunately.

Chavis is and was a good coordinator. The D wasn't the problem, it was our O's inability to sustain drives and keep the D off of the field most of the time. LSU's offense has done a decent job of keeping drives alive thus far (their tailback Ware runs hard). Plus they are extremely deep, rotating 7-8 players at a time, helping to keep them fresh late in the game.

MSU's 45 yards of rushing was miserable, but it was created more by MSU's inability to throw the ball for the most part. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to stack the box and stay there because your opponent can't beat you with their passing game. That's what happened last night. If you stop the run, you stop MSU.

Our O's time of possesion has been our best D this year. If we control the ball against UF this weekend by sustaining drives, expect a BIG UT victory in Florida.
