He was a Vol, not a Vol for life and I’ll leave it at that.

I’d say the same for Andrew Fischer or Liam Doyle.
🤷‍♂️
Fischer and Doyle felt like they should’ve been Vols for their entire collegiate career, same with Amick and Kilen. Players that just fit our culture so well. I’ll forever be salty about Burns tho, our original psycho.

I always have a special affection for players who played here their whole career. That said, Fischer and Doyle finished here by choice. That makes them VFLs in my book. Same as Hendon Hooker and Bru McCoy, Dalton Knecht and Chaz Lanier.

But a player who left Tennessee to join a different college team is a former Vol but cannot be a VFL. The latter is a contradiction.

It’s pretty simple. There may be some exceptions for guys who transfer down a level because of injury, personal stuff, or playing time.. but by down a level I mean to D2

It is interesting that several of the fans favorite players are also not liked in the dugout and locker room. I never found but one player who thought Chase was not a good teammate. Many didn't like that during games he was a loner. He did not want to talk to anyone when he was pitching plus he did not hang with the others away from the field. Kirby was the same because he did not do much of the stuff that other college players do and maybe that is why he and Chase fit so well. Interesting side note. Everyone of Kirby's roommates after his freshman year was drafted and I think 4 first rounders.

Good information. It seems like a lot of people have run with rumors as facts when it comes to him. I have never seen an article or heard an audio clip of him disparaging the Vols.

He had positive things to say about the Vols in this recent article, and shared why he left the program:

I love your follow-up posts! 100% agree about Chase. I know I had to "go ninja" after the games to try and get an autograph. I never heard a bad word about him from anyone. Clearly an introvert, in my opinion. Flourishes in the spot light, then back to reality. Billy Amick is exactly the same. After Chase, he was the toughest autograph to get. He was also very stealth after the games. Both were always super sweet, with a smile and "yes ma'am". Both gave their all for Tennessee during their time on Rocky Top and I am glad they were here 🧡

I hear ya, but if I’m gonna call it one way, I’ve gotta call it the other as well.
I can’t have @knoxvol52 calling me out for my hypocrisy...and he’ll be quick to do it too.🤪

It makes sense I think. The best come with big egos.

I read an article where he was asked how he felt watching Tennessee win the championship the year after he booked for Wake Forest. The best he could come up with was that it was "weird", then changed the subject to how his "personal development" was more important to him. Hopefully, his name and Tennessee won't show up in the same sentence again.

I hope his name does show up in the same sentence with the Vols. He's going to be an exciting player to watch just like he was when he was wearing orange on some really exciting Vol teams.

Yep. This thread is definitely tired & overcooked. 🙄

Chase was one of my faves. I’m trying to forgive him for “ruining” my favorite Vols baseball gif. 😂 Because it was of him and I couldn’t use it in ‘24. 😂 But ‘24 worked out perfectly, and I got to see the ‘23 team in person one weekend. A memory I’ll always cherish.
