You see the game winning TD pass?
no touch on that one ?
I'll take a Heisman Frontrunner and runner up any day of the week over someone as inconsistent as what we've seen the past 3-4 years.I bet Peyton Manning is glad he played at Tennessee before social media and football forums were such a thing. JG could have been 30 out of 31 with 1 badly thrown pass and you all would have hammered him for that.
Just thought it would be interesting to go back and watch the game and chart the throws to see how JG ended up with decent to good stats but we were only 1 of 12 on 3rd downs. (* = would have converted 3rd down)

So based on the bad throws and how open the WR was, JG missed six 3rd down conversions to open WRs so that 1 of 12 could have easily been 6/7 of 12. Almost all of his bad throws were on 3rd down and that was a huge difference in this game. The game is not close if hit those 3rd down passes.
They're not the same.I am not sure why Pulaski and k-town are so defensive with JG. I have a suspicion for k-town but do not want to think that of Pulaski.
Not actually when the ball is way too hard for an nfl receiver to handle and not on target either - uncatchable ball /Good post
I’d argue there is no such thing as “too hard” when fitting the ball into a tight window like that throw was. The WR just had to catch it. If the throw is softer it brings a pick into play.
Not worried at all about it as history says this same group is capable of being really good as they were a season ago. Keep basing everything on the 1st game of the season though as I'm sure we'll play every game the exact same the next 9. Good grief do you really think that we are going to remain that bad all season. Once again as you don't seem to understand, saying Gray goes down too easily is just common sense, even the guy you're trying to buddy up with in this post says the same thing and that honest critique is nothing near the vitriol that the neverJG crowd throws at our QB1. I also don't call for Gray to be benched, I'd like to see him used in space more. He had 40 yards on 12 carries, 20 yac at the most and that is probably being generous, not good by SEC standards but I feel he's got the talent to be a productive back at UT so I'm not freaking out over it as the neverJG crowd is over JGs play.Is third down not when he needs to be?
Also, 5 of 12 incomplete from coverage, drops, or the one you attributed to a bad route (I’m certain an underclassmen ran at least a route or two more incorrectly). Without the additional context, the coverage throws, drop, and 1 bad route would put him 24/31. Is that a good completion percentage? Just asking.Just thought it would be interesting to go back and watch the game and chart the throws to see how JG ended up with decent to good stats but we were only 1 of 12 on 3rd downs. Thanks for providing this graphic for the slow of mind. Seriously. Not worried at all about it as history says this same group is capable of being really good as they were a season ago. Thanks for your reason and rationale. Share with the class more please. They seem to be focused on eating paste. That's a really good point, and I'm glad you charted it. So, I guess that is really why his poor throws stuck out to those who don't believe he played a great game. In addition to being just bad, errant throws, they killed drives and gave the ball back to South Carolina. Perhaps they are a little more forgettable if they happen on 1st or 2nd down.
I feel like he was decent, especially against a very good USC secondary that has two early round NFL corners (though both missed large portions of the 2nd half). He didn't commit any TOs, which was huge in a close game, and he made the big plays to Johnson and Palmer to score the go-ahead TD, which were his two best throws of the night.
The play by play guy also said Chandler scored when it was really Gray who scored. Not actually when the ball is way too hard for an nfl receiver to handle and not on target either - uncatchable ball /
100 out of 100 no one could catch that pass.
Even was commented on by the play by play guy at the time.
False!!!!, I want him to be good, along with everybody else, his numbers are just terrible. He has been bad since BJ days. He would be loved otherwise, social media has nothing to do with it.I bet Peyton Manning is glad he played at Tennessee before social media and football forums were such a thing. JG could have been 30 out of 31 with 1 badly thrown pass and you all would have hammered him for that.
Most of the overthrows were due to pressure up the middle imo. He didn’t step into the throws well

We will find out quickly how big JJ was in 3rd downs and how much they did help or how much his lack of speed hurt us....
jmo but Calloway and JJ were way overrated by this fan base. Sure they were good players but let’s be honest if they were in the elite class of SEC WRs as we like to think we would checking the nfl box scores to see how well they were doing on Sunday’s. Draft day should have been eye opening for us in this regard

Being a good/great college receiver does not necessarily always mean you will be a good/great NFL receiver. There have been plenty of great college WRs that never made a huge impact in the NFL.
JJ and Calloway were not star by any means. IMO they bailed JG out alot more then he helped them....Sure I agree but there aren’t that many the other way either. Meaning not many that aren’t good in college that are good in the nfl. Bottom line is JJ and Calloway were high in production and low on talent imo. We need guys that are high in both and maybe these young guys can develop quickly into that.
