Charting every pass from South Carolina game

Great analysis! I know its asking a lot but also putting where on the field the incomplete passes occurred helps highlight how the incompletions killed the drive that otherwise would have gone for points.

Notice that only one pass was dropped by a WR. Pretty freaking good.

And all those overthrows is the reason JG doesnt have many INTs. Nobody, not even the defense can catch his overthrows (I guess that's a positive???)

Wouldn't be too bad. I re-watch all wins but am thinking about doing this for all games since everyone seemed to like it. We squandered GREAT field position 3-4 times coming away with no points on drives that started at or inside midfield.

An attitude can help someone be great or can hold someone back from being great. In JG's case I think it's holding him back. I think he has all the tools and ability to be great, but it's attitude that's holding him back. Now that's my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

Discussing someone’s attitude in a negative way questions their character more than anything else

imo I think JGs confidence level has been what’s held him back so I think that’s a more fair way to discuss JGs issues than saying he has a bad attitude and using his TD celebrations as an example.

Now what we saw against Ga Tech was an attitude issue but I think it’s clear he’s matured past those type issues

That's a lot of effort spending time to chart passes just for kicks. A bar and a hot chick would have derailed that for me.

this is a quality post!

I think you may have cracked the code on JG!

He gets nervous on third downs. the * show it more clearly than anything I've seen on paper.

they need to go hurry up so he can't think or

call a play that doesn't involve a pass.
He didn't seem to get nervous last year on 3rd downs as we were top 3 SEC behind only Bama and LSU in 3rd down conversions.

OP is now considered a NeverJGer according to Pulaski Logic
Your little boys club sure does worry about me a bunch. At least you know my Vols handle, funny though as I've never thought of mentioning you in someone else's post and I wouldn't remember your moniker even if I did. You're inconsequential to me.

Pulaski will be along shortly to blame it on the offensive line.
Blame them for what? Pruitt seemed to lay some blame on them today for their protection but I don't have blame to lay, other than 5 bad throws JG was pretty efficient and effective when he needed to be

He was 4th in QBR. Oddly he was dead last with 5 INT's as well.

But this past Saturday he appeared to be rushing his throwing motion... probably to compensate for that problem you say he doesn't have.

Yeah, 1 for 7 on 3rd down just SCREAMS "efficient and effective".

He hits those open receivers... that game becomes a laugher.

JG attempted 6 passes beyond 20 yards and completed 2/6. One could have easily have been caught by Keyton and one was PI on South Carolina. He also threw 6 passes between 11-20 yards and connected on 2 of those. The rest of his 19 passes were within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. Of those 19 passes only 5 were caught beyond 5 yards past line of scrimmage. That leaves 9 receptions within 5 yards of the LOS. Our WRs had 105 yards after catch leaving JG with 154 yards thrown in the air.
Good analysis. Tells a person how JG’s respectable stats are padded by the short passes and the receivers are helping him out significantly on his yardage stats.

ya his stats are padded EXACTLY THE SAME WAY that Josh Dobbs stats were padded. Dozens of lolly pop high percentage throws that rely heavily on the WRs to make magic happen and dont rely on QB accuracy. Granted in years past our OL has reeked and provided no time to make throws down field. But that isn't the case now.
JG made one awesome throw that resulted ion a TD but he totally cant make that throw twice in a row. He's so inconsistent and Chaney had to modify the offense to compensate for it.

It's actually quite comical. He gets proven wrong , so he goes back to the past, which even that he cherry picks. I call him out for criticizing Eric Gray when others aren't apparently allowed to criticize JG, so he then attempts to insult me. Now he says JG was effective when he needed to be. So third downs dont matter, and JG will only be effective as he sees need.

Pride can be a debilitating thing.

I am not sure why Pulaski and k-town are so defensive with JG. I have a suspicion for k-town but do not want to think that of Pulaski.

Not terrible, when you look at the stat sheet. But that's always been JG's problem hasn't it. Stats look good, but he just doesn't pass the eye test. And those incompletions because of throwing behind, or over, the receiver come at the absolute worst times. I do believe his decision making has improved. But his pass accuracy...I just don't see how you improve that with a 5th year senior.
It's also not taken into consideration on some of those the pocket collapsed and he wasn't able to step into the throw. Sometimes he just didn't have good footwork. Looked better than last year IMO. Good reads, attacked some downfield, avoided some pressure. Not perfect but I think he played way more confident than last year.

Can you elaborate or provide a link if it isn't a Paid Site?

Just thought it would be interesting to go back and watch the game and chart the throws to see how JG ended up with decent to good stats but we were only 1 of 12 on 3rd downs. (* = would have converted 3rd down)

So based on the bad throws and how open the WR was, JG missed six 3rd down conversions to open WRs so that 1 of 12 could have easily been 6/7 of 12. Almost all of his bad throws were on 3rd down and that was a huge difference in this game. The game is not close if hit those 3rd down passes.
Could you list how many of the completions were behind the line if scrimmage?

The inconsistency has been my gripe. That's TD pass was beautiful, and then will overthrow a wr 5 yards downfield. Its baffling

I bet Peyton Manning is glad he played at Tennessee before social media and football forums were such a thing. JG could have been 30 out of 31 with 1 badly thrown pass and you all would have hammered him for that.

Those missed throws on 3rd down are about the same as a turnover...
