Charlotte Decommit Ebuka Izundu 6'10 PF (Miami commit)

His coach is a bit of a tool it would seem...

Rumors have swirled that Tennessee leads in Izundu's recruitment because new Volunteers coach Rick Barnes hired former Charlotte assistant Desmond Oliver.

McCain wants the world to know that Tennessee has no advantage over any other school.

McCain is looking at a long list of schools including interest from Arkansas, UK, Miami (Fla.) and Connecticut, along with Tennessee and several other schools. And one important thing for Izundu is the ability to play in the NCAA Tournament.

"(Tennessee) wouldn't be the favorite and I want everyone to know that," McCain said. "You have Arkansas and Kentucky, they were one and two in the conference last year. Realistically if Arkansas is recruiting me and I can go to a place that's second=place in the conference, why not go there? I'm all with rebuilding but if I can rebuild with a place that's second in the conference, absolutely I'd do that first. We're all about the relationships and where he's going to learn and grow.

"I tell him that I don't want him in a situation where he has to build up until his junior year and then make it to the tournament his senior year. No I want him to experience that every year he's in college. If Arkansas, Miami, UConn, and Cincinnati are the place to go for that, that's what he'll consider. And Tennessee isn't out of the race, but I don't want that to be the deciding factor that everybody thinks because that coach recruited him he has a one-up on everybody; Tennessee does not have a one-up on everybody, you can quote me on that. It's wide open."

It appears this one isn't going to happen. Oh Voldirector, I wanted to believe.........

It seems like North Carolina is full of tiny "Christian" schools that have a lot of basketball talent...

looked up his school. Says they are renowned for rocketry

lol

If he wanted him to go to a school that consistently is in the NCAA tournament then why did he commit to Charlotte first?

Or why list Arkansas? They have been in the tourney about as much as we have in the past few years. They are losing their best player Portis and most likely won't make the tourney anyways.

I would love to have seen what Pinkins could've done without the cloud hanging over him. If you don't land this kod then this hire is puzzling. Not a strong resume. Several years with Felt on at UGA.
Can't think of less impressive recruiting or record.

Weird to hear from a coach. Not like Izundu was going to a tourney type team. Charlotte had a losing record. Arky hardly goes to the tourney anymore, and loses their best players. Big wth from me.

@JayhawkSlant: Norm Roberts is making the trip to Victory Christian HS in Charloette, N.C., today to get a look at 2015 big man Ebuka Izundu. #Kubball

Sounds like the coach is full of crap

There seems to be a vast difference in the opinions and involment from his HS coach and his AAU coach, his AAU coach is who Oliver has the strong connection with, and was influential in his initial commitment. I'm not sure if Izundu values ones opinion more than the other or not, and seeing as how we have yet to see quotes from Izundu who knows what he's thinking, but it is possible his HS coach is just trying to hang on the coat tails of Izundu with these big schools now coming around.

Have no idea at all but that was my first thoughts on his high school coach when I read his quotes

Our only hope is Oliver and maybe the kid likes us because we jumped on him early. Otherwise this is over.

When's the last time Barnes didn't make the NCAA tournament?
