Charlie Kirk Shot and killed

Hope your daughter is able to process through the trauma with no lasting effects.

And I hope there are no posters so classless, petty, and ignorant that they would continually make fun of your daughter for reacting with tears.

Unfortunately.....we have some of those.
So far, so good.

I candidly knew nothing about him. Its literally his glib response "of too many" in the question right before the shot that I know from him. I don’t like the dismissive attitude but its no reason to shoot the guy.

Kirk was murdered for one reason and one reason only ... he was relevant and he was effective and that was an unacceptable fact for his killer and those other weak minded individuals like him.

Well yeah, that was the point of that anecdote. I don't watch that much of him, but I do see him being condescending and dismissive, like when he called the kid's argument "silly" when he didn't have a response.

Edit: It's an impossible ask to be cool and calm and collected all the time when your profession is debate. I'm admittedly too aggressive with debate, which is a big reason why I almost completely avoid it in my personal life. I'm not saying he was a very antagonistic guy comparing him to his profession. I do think he had some opinions that are especially distasteful.
Having not watched the video you're referencing and agreeing context is important, in the blind it doesn't sound antagonistic or dismissive to call an argument silly.
Of course, i've been called far worse so my skin is extremely thick.

No one should die from gun violence except where it was absolutely required in self-defense. However, if I had to choose who would die from gun violence between a kid just trying to go to school and learn who gets gunned down by a mass shooter and a blow-hard far-right political instigator who made his entire living off of raising the political temperature to where it is is now and who said that gun violence is a worth it as the price of admission for having the second amendment, I know which lesser of the two evils I would choose.
Wow.. so basically you are saying you can disagree but do it ever so politely, and don’t be a blowhard, but if you are on my side you can burn down stuff, vandalize, steal, beat up and shoot people and be violent. Got it.

You cannot be against gun violence and do a however.

It is inherently dismissive to disagree with an argument only with, "That's _________." Using a pejorative to shoot down an idea, without a valid explanation, is the textbook example of arguing in bad faith.

Not to be callous towards the man, but why do so many of you feel an emotional connection to Charlie or his murder?
I'm guessing a lot of people have seen the close up video of it happening. For that reason alone I think this will get a lot more attention and reaction.

Seeing the actual event imo will make it a lot more memorable and impactful.

i don't have any particular feelings for or against him but i watched the video and have felt emotional about it since, anyone talking or even joking about killing people who merely talk about political beliefs needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and if they can't reconcile themselves with it and decide to change they should probably be in a mental hospital

Several of you in this very thread that are on obviously different sides of the political spectrum need to pull your head out of your ass. Keep demonizing and blaming entire groups of people for the actions of a few and you'll just keep contributing to the terrible political climate that leads to terrible days like today. I hate this two party system. It's pushing people to extremes by design. Keep feeding that tiger thinking you're safe. It's going to eat you at some point.

I think it’s more Democrats calling for violence against conservatives. Been called a Nazi by the left. Been called a threat by the left. Charlie was also doing a lot good with the youth in the country

Subjective.

No understanding to gain by pressing.

No problem for me if you find it dismissive.

Makes sense. I didn't and will not watch the video of his murder.

A mass school shooting happened literally as this was happening and no one is posting anything about it. It's very telling as to where this country is at.
A man that founded his organization at 18 years old and was likely a future Conservative candidate to be President of the United States assassinated at 31 years old.

This is RFK for our time.

Get your head out of your 🫏!

Leaders from across Europe are offering their condolences and support for the Kirk family after Charlie Kirk died Wednesday in the wake of a shooting during a speaking engagement in Utah.

"He has been killed for saying things that used to be simple common sense," wrote former Prime Minister Boris Johnson in an X post. "He has been killed because he had the courage to stand up publicly for reasonable opinions held by millions and millions of ordinary people both in the US and Britain. The world has a shining new martyr to free speech."

Leader of Reform UK Nigel Farage also weighed in, writing "This is a very dark day for American democracy. I am desperately sad for Charlie, his wife and children."

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni added she was "shocked" by the tragedy. "I am shocked by the news of the killing of Charlie Kirk, a young and followed Republican activist," wrote Meloni in a translated X post.

"An atrocious murder, a deep wound for democracy and for those who believe in freedom. My condolences to his family, to his loved ones, and to the American conservative community," Meloni concluded.

Finally, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his condolences:

"My thoughts this evening are with the loved ones of Charlie Kirk. It is heartbreaking that a young family has been robbed of a father and a husband. We must all be free to debate openly and freely without fear - there can be no justification for political violence."
