Charlie Baggett says Justin Hunter has Randy Moss type talent

Weird that someone mentioned Jerry Rice but not in response to this.

All time receiving yardage in the NFL
#1 Jerry Rice - Mississippi Valley State
#2 Isaac Bruce - Memphis
#3 Terrell Owens - Tennessee Chattanooga
#6 Randy Moss - Marshall

I'm guessing these guys weren't exactly highly recruited. If they were, they picked some weird ass schools.

You do know that Moss signed with Notre Dame and then went to FSU before landing at Marshall right?

Wow, we got a pretty good receiver in Peerless. Only ranked #15, and he was the 2nd best player in that position class (both college and pro's).

Moss was slated to go to FSU until he got kicked out of high school for fighting or something like that and they pulled his scholarship along with other top programs. He was a top 5 recruit in the Nation.

Well that clears that up. I didn't know how big of a recruit he was. I was under the impression that since he went to Marshall, that he somehow was under the radar.

That's cool. It was before recruiting rankings hit it big. But by all accounts, he seemed to be the best player coming out of high school.

He got in a fight and was put on probation. ND wouldn't take him. FSU then allowed him to come. He then got caught smoking mary jane, and violated his probation. FSU then kicked him out.

he looked at Notre Dame and Holtz would have taken him but ND adminstration said no. he then turned to Marshall

Change FSU to Notre Dame.

He went to FSU after Notre Dame and failed a drug test while on probation from the fight that lost him his Notre Dame scholarship.

Marshall was just right up the road from his hometown.

Okay. Take Moss off the list then. Out of the top three receivers, the best school any of them went to was Memphis. That's pretty horrible.

Neither are you or you wouldn't be confused.

If someone straight out of high school has "randy moss type talent" he should be a consenus top 20 recruit. That's my point. I'm not saying he can't be the next Randy Moss.

You'd think. It happens though. I mean, Cortland Finnegan for example... I believe his only scholarship offer was Samford. He was a 7th round pick in the draft. He is now the Titans number one CB and is probably top 5 or 10 in the NFL currently. I agree it's weird but somehow it happens.

You are amazingly dense.

He questioned how a player as talented as Hunter wasn't a top 20 recruit by recruiting services.

You then went on to post a list of the top 3 WRs in either yardage or receptions. They all went to small schools. Adding Moss, who managed to get kicked out of two prestigious football schools, really didn't help your argument.

Yeah... the top receivers all time in the NFL clearly weren't top 20 recruits let alone top 200.

Glad you enjoy being an internet tough guy though. You're kind of a jerk aren't ya? Good job.

Every year, "we" read the press, and determine that our (fill in the blank) team will win the National Title, and we have several all-americans. This year may be a little different, but my point is that we will probably not know for sure what kind of team we have on our hands until midway through the second game. Same is likely true of Hunter, etc. Will he go through freshman jitters, etc.?

As for the team, I worry about line depth on both sides. As for Hunter, is he big enough to take the hits? Will he shy from contact? We will probably know all these answers before October, but that is what makes games and Christmas (and boxes of chocolate) so great: you never know what you are going to get!

i understand what you are saying but alot of people in the recruiting forum and the staff were really high on him before he even got here. that tells me that he is either a natural that has had very poor high school coaching or or maybe wasnt utilized in the offense he played in. it could actually be one of a million things. he might not have taken football serious until it got close to graduation time. either way, if Baggett said it, i believe it.

well, now Charlie has set fans expectations way up there.... :)

I thought when he commited to ut that he would be the one to lead ut back to wide receiver U. It's just one of those feelings I've had for months. I think Rogers will be great too, but we won't see him emerge till next year when he has to step up with jones and Moore leaving.

Most of that conceived dominance was because of the conference(i.e level of competition) he played in. After Moss made his rounds through D-1 and ended up getting kicked out of FSU(which BTW, at that time was no easy feat), when he dropped to Division 1-AA, he was a man among boys. SEC caliber playing in a lower division. Chad Pennington(who probably could have played at Tennessee if not for a certain high profile qb) made him look better sometimes too. Of course, then again, he returned that favor several times over.

Just a comparison of all the athletes I have seen play live...and the MAC was actually a decent conference back then up through 2005....and Pennington got picked 5 times that day.

Looks like all the recruiting services except ESPN were a little bit off.
