I'm not mad at CW, but the media definitely had it in their head that a D player was going to win it.
CW stats
7 INT 0 TDs
226 Yards from scrimmage 3 TD
283 return yards 1 TD
Carl Pickens 1989
4 INT 1 TD
84 yard from scrimmage 2 TD
650 return yards 1 TD
He had 4 INT despite playing D for only 4 games.
My point is, it was a trendy thing to do at the time. There's no way CW has the greatest season on defense in CFB history. Just look at Reggie White's senior year.
CW was a great player and I have nothing against him, but the Heisman is just a silly meaningless award.
I don't think your going to get any argument from anybody on that here. Still his was a good player, but it's the voting committee that should be frowned upon no matter what. GBO!
