Charles Mosley and Dimarya Mixon no longer with team

Okay, and thats why i dont get it right now and think there is something more. I remember Mixon having issues. But if its me, i would want as much competition going into spring as i could have.

Im not saying its the wrong thing to do, but would like to know the back story.

Maybe the coaches agree with me and figured why wait for some mythical cartoon lightbulb to go off over their head? Maybe we hear more of the factors that went into the decision(s) and whether the players or coaches made them...or maybe not. Lot of fuss over little to nothing imo.

Did you really think these 2 were called to a surprise meeting in CBJ's office and found out they were voted off the island?

If Mixson is graduating and not going to be here in the fall, why would he go through spring training?

Why waste coaching effort on known non-contributors when it could be better focused on future play-makers?

Because the are college kids that go through tough times from time to time. Why would yoh give up on kids at the first sight of adversity? I remember several on this board wanting Kongbo off the team because of a sideline reaction they percieved as negative. Its silly that we would give up on people that young so fast.

Mosley got tired of CBJ BS. Move him to OL one year, have him as the primary DT in spring practice because of injuries, move him back to the OL for the season to hold down the bench and out of desperation move him back to the DL. Don't blame him one bit for leaving.

Makes sense. Good luck to him.

They've been on campus for three years. And this is neither's "first sight of adversity".

No, I don't think we were a good team. But I have been told for the last 4 months that I am a complete buffoon because obviously we didn't have enough depth to compete with Vandy. So I'm hoping one of those people can tell me how that's possible, but now we can just afford to let players go.

Probably a whole lot more to this than we know. We're on the outside guessing about the inside.

Future play makers sounds great.

Putting efforts toward other possible contributors is prudent over the known not to be.

Of course they seemed to have missed on those 2 to some degree, I ll pump the breaks on their replacements until they take a snap.

I'm guessing by now no one is disputing that they missed on these two.

They hit on Tuttle and KMac....Missed on these two....It's the ones that fall between these two groups that we need to see progression from.

To break it down for you: last year, our overall roster was around 74. In addition to being down approximately 11 players, we had close to 20 injuries. Now, our roster is over the 85, so we have to make cuts.

As far as not beating Vandy, not only were we down key 1st stringers, but we were down 2nd stringers. So, guys that should have been our depth were forced to grind out games with little relief. Guys that weren't ready for the load they were forced to carry.
I gave the fella' the same chance you were, Kristy. But I must adhere to the tried-and-true axiom that it's fruitless to argue with a lunatic. It's been politely explained to him about the radical impossibility of morphing DLs into DTs in just a week, making 3rd string LBs overcome SEC blockers in non-existant gaps due to DLs trying to open 'em, and tackling always fresh RBs who're not too fast for our starters, but just flit by these slower guys who're normally out of position, who should be warming the bench. He's not about to acknowledge it, but the boy's just another nega who can't admit to eating crow pie even if he's just pooped it. Don't worry. There's always us never-say-die Vol fans. AMIRIGHT?

Lol....ok. <---see, I can also laugh.

I don't expect you to believe anything. You act like this has not been done before. Mosley did nothing here. Mixon...here are his whopping 3 year career stats here. 19 tackles. 3.5 tackles for loss. 1 sack. You use Vandy in your post. I'm not even sure Mixon played in that game. If he did, he did absolutely nothing...what did his "depth" matter?

There is no worthwhile reason to keep Mosley and Mixon's 3 year production wasn't much better than Mosley's nothing. Add to the fact that Mixon was also apparently in trouble...why keep them?

Give me a reason why this is such a laughable concept.
:good!:I hear ya', BB. Just as I just told Kristy: It's simply fruitless to argue with a lunatic. Considering the young-but-promising talent coming into spring practice, what sense does it make to take away valuable coaching time from them, wasting it on a couple of players who haven't and probably won't ever pan out? And...I agree with Butchna that it is, indeed, a numbers game. I know that. You know that. My cousin Eddie knows that, but this out-of-nowhere wannabe-somebody? Since he's got an axe to grind with Coach Jones...I'll just stay as far away from where he's swinging it. Keep ridin'. AMIRIGHT?

Over recruiting? First couple years thought so, but a lot of attrition which equals a lot of churning of recruits. Have to make sure results are there and not a shell game of replacements for supposed contributors.

Wasn't Mosley from Memphis area? If so, we have a real bad track record with Memphis athletes. When was the last great UT athlete from Memphis...Whitten perhaps?

Too bad he broke his leg just before arriving at UT. Who knows how good he could have been?

Big Charles Mosley was a good kid though, I wish him the absolute best.

Richmond...

Then why did we recruit him and tout him as a big pick up?

Diamond in the rough theory? IDK. Guess the staff thought he might live up to the potential of a big man with his athletic ability. Also, when have you ever known CBJ to not tout a recruit as a big pick up?

Just a bit outside! One more strike and I' getting booted from this thread.

I thought he was from Germantown. I guess that is a ways from Elizabethton.

I'd much rather be from East Tennessee than the West side of the state too.

I may end up retiring there. This thin, dry air and ever increasing cost of living is making me rethink about that. Not many bugs though.

Jeff and Brad Cottam were from Germantown or Collierville which are suburbs of Memphis.

It kinda looked like Mixon was a discipline problem. As for Mosley, I just don't believe he ever really bought into the system.

:no:Such a shame. We'll need all of the interior DL guys available playing the usual gauntlet. Luck might rear it's ugly head when we play Georgia Tech. Trying to stop the wishbone with a thin group of interior linemen is awfully risky business, just look at how their o-line throws down blocks....

Mosley reminds me of the kid out of Oak Ridge in the early 90s. 5star size, 1-star effort. True that Brain and Cave would both be ahead of him at DT and he wasnt making any noise on the Oline.

Haynesworth even made a comment to me specifically about Mosley after he had stopped by practice, just in regards to his size.

I thought Mixon would be in the rotation at end, but if he's leaving football so be it. But it does count against Butch's attrition. It's his and his staff job to evaluate, offer and then develop these kids.
