Charles Davis asks who will be the class that beats Bama

I would say that we wait until Saban retires and then the ineffective new hire will take the program in to a tail spin and probably 3 years later we will get a win in Neyland Stadium. So, I say it will be 3 seasons after Saban retires.
The development of their players is far, far better than ours, at this point. The S & C of their players is much, much better than our S & C of our players right now. Their recruiting of their players is better than ours is right now. Their in-game adjustments is better than ours right now. Their killer instinct is better than ours. I see games in which we HOPE to win a game. O'Bama doesn't hope to win games, they expect to win each and every one of them.
Fella's, we have a long ways to push that bolder up the hill before we can catch them and a little further than that before we can beat them.... 1 practice at a time......
Their cheating is better than ours to

Saban signed an extension through the 2025 season. We wont beat Bama under Saban. He is so far ahead of us in recruiting its not even funny. The past 2 years he could have beaten us by 50+ but he took it easy. So I would say the 2024 class has a good chance to beat Bama in 2026.

No question Saban is amazing, maybe the best ever, but he can be beat. Dabo at Clemson isn't waiting for Saban to retire before intending to beat Bammer, neither is Kirby, Orgeron or Malzahn , nor will Jimbo at A&M. They have every intention of beating him now. We probably can't beat them this year, but I'm hoping Pruitt doesn't hold a "wait 'til Saban retires" attitude, but pushes the Vols hard this year and every year until we put a whoopin on the Tide.
While he can be beaten, its extremely difficult. And normally it either takes a transcendent player, Bama making uncharacteristic mistakes or just pure luck. Very rarely does it happen that a team lines up, plays straight up and beats Alabama.

Butch had him on the ropes a couple of years ago. He can be beaten and Pruitt might just do it.

Seems the teams that beat Bama (Saban) do so by going wide open on offense. Nobody seems to out defense him. Look at aTm, UA, Ole Miss. All high scoring. Hard to beat him in a low scoring game. Have to force their offense to win.

Depends on when Saban leaves.

If we are going to beat them while he's still there, then we have to get a lot more overall talent on the roster, have a mobile QB (when Saban loses, it's almost always to a team with a mobile QB) and catch them on a day when they don't play their best. Alabama doesn't lose often, but he's also only had one undefeated season.

Alabama will be a dominant force in college football for at least 2-3 years after Saban leaves. It's really interesting to think about how their decline will play out, but personally I think it'll go like this:

1. Saban retires.
2. The guy they bring in, whether it be Dabo or someone else, is good but not good enough. He struggles under the weight of the expectations. They go 3-4 years with only, say, one SEC title/playoff appearance, and no national titles. Perhaps they beat Auburn only twice in 4 years or once in 3 years. The new guy recruits pretty well, but they don't have the #1/2 class every year. Auburn and LSU are perceived to be rapidly closing the gap. Their fanbase, especially their younger fans who have never seen Alabama be anything other than the national favorite every year, becomes really despondent.
3. After a couple seasons of not winning the conference, the new guy is fired, despite warnings and lots of opinions from the talking heads that it is dangerous to fire a coach whose only problem is that he isn't as good as Saban.
4. The guy who replaces Saban's replacement ends up simply being not a good hire. This would be likely 3-4 years after Saban has retired, and any sheen he had on the program is largely faded away.

Dabo??? I thought Saban was grooming Butch to take the reins??

The next class to beat Bama is in Athens right now.
I think you may be correct sir....They're building a better version of a football team down there to the point the Georgia players believe they can beat a Bama. That in itself is powerful. Not to mention I'm one of the few that thinks Mr. Tua isn't in fact superman.

Three years from now we will have developed enough talent to beat Bama. We are better than we look on paper now and will only get better over the next two years. There have been opportunities to beat them in recent years and I believe this is an opportunity to finish what Coach Kiffin and Coach Jones could not. Everything works in cycles and Tennessee is due a resurgence. Go Vols!

I don't think Tennessee Wesleyan is even on Bama schedule. Why do you feel a need to come on to a Vol board and gush your UGA Fanboy stuff?

Not a UGA fan, but it’s obvious they’re about to win a couple of national championships within the next 4 years. That’s who will beat Alabama in the near future.

Saban will stay until his resume’ is untouchable, he’s almost there. One more natty will put him above Bear, which is when I think he will hang it up.

The thread was clearly about Tennessee beating Alabama Charles Davis went to Tennessee it has nothing to do with who in the country is going to beat Alabama. In fact I would be willing to bet a large amount that someone will beat Alabama before Georgia because Georgia is not even on their schedule. It will have to happen at the SEC championship game at the earliest. the odds are in favor of someone beating Alabama this year

“When I got to school in 1982, we were freshmen and we beat Alabama for the first time in 11 years,” he said. “Then in 1983, we went to Birmingham and played them and we beat them that year, too. So who is going to be that class, that group to usher in a new era and in conjunction with the other classes that are around them and gives them that chance and make the Third Saturday in October something special again? We are counting on Coach Pruitt and his crew to make it that way and Coach Fulmer can tell him all about it going 11-5 against Alabama."

Charles Davis has 'full support' for Pruitt, looking forward to 'competing for championships down the road'

If Olle Miss can beat him, Tennessee under Pruitt will be able to beat him within 3-4 years.

I sure miss Freddie Kitchens, Andrew Zow & Mike DuBose.....
I saw Freddie on the episode of Hard Knocks last night with the Browns.
When I come across some "new" Bama fans I ask if they know who he is. Most of the time they answer "no" so that tells me all I need to know about them.

Ooh, I don't think that's "obvious" at all.

Saban is a VERY suspect game day coach. Look no further than how UGA in the NC game showed he was out coached, Malzahn at AU and Freeze when at Ole Miss had success against him as well. Don't get me wrong, Saban is a decent game day coach but he's far from great, look at the dumb assetry he pulled when he missed a long FG at end of game, had to kick to Auburn, put a bunch of big slow guys on the field and Auburn returned the kickoff for the win taking him out of the NC game that year. That was just bad game day coaching by Saban.

Agreed, Smart demonstrated he could win with Richt's kids developed by same, has yet to demonstrate he can win with his own recruits.

Vols have to get players to compete and beat them. They had a chance in 2015 with Hurd, Malone, Barnett, Dobbs, and Kamara but couldn't pull it off. It will take a nucleus of players like that can make plays to beat Bama.

After that, can we please take down all of those Bear Bryant statues? His record will have been broken. Time to move on
