When should JJ play?

Although he hasn't been allowed into football facilities but he can be running on his own, going into the T-RAC, etc.

If he just sat around playing video games in this time period that would tell me how much he wants back on the team.

True, but has he ? and even if he has, I'm not sure I want a guy that hasn't practiced any live football and been in a team enviroment in a month starting at FS. I say play the people that have put in the practice time and earned the right to play and I'll be surprised if CLK and staff do not take that approach as well.

He will be playing ... All you had to do was read between the lines in every statement that coach made about JJ ... "as soon as we get in all the facts we will make a decision" ... facts are in and he won't be punished any further

Well the only thing I can think of is there was word that weed was on some of the persons.

I think he's cleared that first hurdle of the Armed Robbery, but he may still have an uphill climb.

No. The mj and paraphenalia was found in the car and claimed by the girl. She was charged with possession in addition to attempted armed robbery. SHE still has an uphill climb due to that, but since none was found on Jackson, he was not charged with possession. Legally, he is in the clear unless some entirely new evidence comes up, which seems unlikely at this point.

Now, his legal situation is only part of the story. If a guy is prosecuted and/or convicted of a serious crime by the legal system, the coaches wouldn't have much choice about keeping them, as a practical matter. But that doesn't mean that players can't be diciplined (including dismissal) for things that aren't illegal. The first time we hear about a player calling Coach O a dumbA$$, you'd have a chance to see the difference. That's not illegal, but the fact that the player may not have commited a crime won't save him. Likewise, it's not illegal to show your rear-end, like Brandon Warren....

With all of that said, it appears from the police investigation that JJ likely did not know before nor immediately after what those two knuckleheads did and he appears to have fully cooperated with the police. He didn't violate curfew, either. I think a two game suspension is plenty for having associated with Nu'Keese and Mike Edwards, because it appears that's about all he did. Shoot, Kiffin recruited them and he isn't getting fired for this, since there was no way to predict that they would do this. You can't reasonably hold a person accountable for someone else's actions - if you could I guess we'd have to disband the team and close the University.

Let him play. And let him know that this is his last chance.

I am not sure why people think HE SHOULD NOT play. If JJ truly did not know what went down, the plans to what was going down, etc... then he is INNOCENT. Why should someone who is innocent be penalized? Doing something wrong is different than exercising poor judgment.

None of us posting... unless you have a close contact with the coaches... really know the full situation. I'm sure the coaches have all the details they need to make a decision, and my guess is that even the players on the team may not fully know what really happened that night as the coaches - as they should - tend to keep these things between themselves. I'm sure they will make the best decision for JJ and the team. It is their decision, not the players or "key players".

However, what I don't understand is all the posters who are saying he should play "because we need him against KY". That is completely irrelevant and should not... and imo will not... be a consideration. I can only imagine the bashing we would be giving to Gator or Bama if they were to factor in the same considerations... how hypocritical and inappropriate.

Good post. I agree.

Just because she claimed the weed in no way means he wasn't partaking.

I was simply saying that his path may not be as clear as some people think.

Rogan, when he was moved over from CB, looked lost and never was concise with his angles to the ball carrier. Wolf was even worse.

JJ, even if he isn't at peak conditioning and hasn't been practicing, still is a far better choice than the alternatives.

I don't understand why he shouldn't play. If he's innocent and did nothing wrong in this cirucumstance why punish him? I know some are saying he messed up a couple times before this incident, but those same people weren't saying he should be suspended the rest of the season for those first problems. If he didn't do anything wrong this time, then why all of a sudden should he be suspended for the first ones? He's only guilty of going out with friends one night. Should we suspend all the players who do that? What kind of justification is it to suspend a player who is innocent of the accusations and has been deemed by the court to not have done anything wrong. It makes no sense to suspend him for anymore games.

I am okay either way. I would like to see Jackson play because he was proven innocent of the crime and served his time while the investigation went on.

The question is will this be his last incident or will there be more? How much does he want to be back on the team?

What has he been doing will barred from all team activities?

Where is his heart?

Those are the questions I want answered and I will trust Lane's decision.

Understood - I wouldn't take her word for it either. But since she alone was charged with possession, it appears that the police believe it was hers and hers alone. That make prosecution of him for that highly unlikely at this point - I'm sure they've done their homework.

I think he's clear legally, but I do think that his path as far as the team and the coaches are concerned is not as clear. I could see them reinstating him now or as late as the after the bowl game and wouldn't have a problem with either since they know him, the details of all of this, and his attitude better than any of us.

Why all the moralizing? The guy just served a two-game suspension for an incident in which he ended up being completely cleared. This incident should have absolutely scared the shiat out of him; either he's going to learn his lesson from it or he's never going to learn it at all. If he's clean enough to keep on the team, which UT apparently thinks he is, then he's clean enough to play after serving a two-game suspension. This is SEC football, not church camp. Two games for this is enough. If he gets busted for anything else, dismiss him on the spot.

Can't or I would. But please why not anyone on here call into the sports page and pull the white horse out from under these holier than thow never did nothins? Only the standard caller today. "I thank he shuldn't play no more cuz he made bad dicisions"

JJ should come back to the team the minute the charges were dropped. He has missed 2 games, 3 weeks of practice, many sleepless nights plus lawyer fees. It is evident with charges being dropped that he was not guilty of anything but being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people. I am also sure that nothing will ever happen like this in the future with him. He has to bright a future for him to make mistakes like this again.

I know what he has gone through because 38 years a go something similar happened to me. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people. I had no idea what was going on and when all was said and done all charges were dropped, too. It was a very traumatic experience none the less. Note to JJ: change your friends just the same!

This totally turned my life around as I bet it will for JJ. I've gotten 3 collage degrees, worked at the same great job for 32 years, have been married to the same wounderful woman for 30 years, we have 3 great kids who are all married with families of their own. We are all productive members of society.

People remember this is just a young 17 or 18 year old kid who was not guilty of anything but being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people. Give him a break. Give him your prayers. Give him your support! Those without sin may cast the first stone!

GO VOLS!

well since the charges are dropped he's only guilty of bad friends. and that isn't against the law or team rules. So why not play?

Thanks,
I appreciate your insight.
We should all be like you and remember our shortcomings and be slow to judge others.

I hope that Coach makes the right decision.(& no I don't know what that is yet)
