Character?

It's all about the character. These guys are pathetic, most of them. we have more serious issues than I thought. And I'll say this, I really believed that we could snag a big time coach who could come in and turn things around pretty quick, but now i think I'm wrong, because the issues that we have on this team go beyond poor play calling and lack of execution, we have some personality issues, we have some leadership issues, we have some issues that cannot be fixed overnight, and maybe can't be fixed until some of these guys are gone. I am just really sad about the state of our beloved Vols right now, and ticked off at the same time. I am now preparing myself for the possible reality of a long road back.

just because you are a character doesn't mean you have character.

Good post and i'm afraid its a accurate statement of where this program is at. I too thought this could be a easy fix for the next guy. My opinion of that has changed very quickly over the last week or so.

The one positive to all of that is that we have no long term multi-million dollar contracts with the players and they only get 4 years of eligibility so they can't stay too long. I think Saban had to boot a bunch of guys when he took over at Bama.

Not me. I like a person with loyalty and someone who speaks his mind.

He has been caught on camera laughing on the sidelines during embarrassing losses to rivals. Not to mention he drops passes, and has had some costly fumbles. It's one thing to do this when you are the best player on the team with an unquestionable work ethic and desire to win, but it's quite another when you are the 3rd or 4th receiver on a weak receiving corps and have less than 15 catches all season.

I thiink character is a part of it but I also think we recruit so much outside the state of Tennessee that these guys come here with no UT pride. They didn't grow up wanting to play at UT (some did but not all of them). Look at teams like LSU and the Florida teams, almost their entire roster is from in state. Pride has A LOT to do with it.

Honestly I wonder some about that.

UT has always recruited out of state. It used to be that a lot of players came out of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky. We also got most of the Tennessee players. A few here and there would go to Kentucky or Alabama or Notre Dame if they were Catholic and Lou sent the Pope to recruit them.

It seems now that a lot of the kids are coming from California and parts out west for some reason or other.

I've noticed around here, soccer is taking over. Kids that would have 15 years ago played little league football aren't, they are playing soccer. I wonder if that's part of it? It may be that there are just more teams than there used to be and it's spreading the talent thinner, I don't know either way. I do know we aren't geting the quality players to start with.
