Chaney

I don't understand the 3rd and short play calling this year. It seems on many 3rd and 1, 3rd and 2, and they are trying 20 yard passes? I guess that is better than last year, 3rd and 6 and 3rd and 7 and always throwing 3-4 yard passes to the WR completely covered up with no chance to make the first down.

I hope Chaney stays here for 10 years and I think he will.... He has forgotten more about offense than many of these other cats will ever know. He's a perfect fit for what Pruitt wants to do.
Apparently Pruitt wants to pay a guy the second highest salary in the nation to have the 63 ranked offense out of 76 teams.

Question for today: is the combined weight of our AD, HC, and OC over or under the composite talent score for UGA (990.41)?
I‘ll hang up and listen.

He doesn't care about having a high powered offense. He only cares about winning games. Most of your highly ranked offenses are the up-tempo spread offenses but many times that leads to bad defense.

It seems as though Pruitt's recipe for winning consists of a ball-control offense and a stingy defense. With that kind of recipe, we'll probably never see a highly ranked offense. Most likely, we'll only rise to about the middle of the pack when operating at a high level (see Georgia at #34 in 2020, #59 in 2019, #19 at their prime in 2018 with Chaney). Maybe we'll see Chaney open it up a bit when we get a more capable QB, but more importantly I'd like to see us get back to averaging around 6 ypc.

One thing about Georgia in particular that might make him struggle is the familiarity. We thought that might give him an edge since he knows Georgia's defense, but maybe the opposite is true that they know his offense so well it's hard to out scheme them.

I think Kirby said as much in his post game.

Go check the offensive rankings of the playoff teams the last few years.

Chaney is pedestrian. His offenses aren't dynamic. They are predictable. They rely on as close as possible to perfect execution to be effective. When his plays get stuffed, he has no answer. That's his MO. He isn't near the play caller Cut was, and can't about sniff the region of little Spurrier or Kiffen. He ain't going anywhere either. No one else will pay to take him away, he doesn't want to go and Pruitt won't run him off. I like Chaney, I just know he needs a head coach that will push him outside of his comfort zone and Pruitt isn't gonna be that guy.

Kirby used to go against chaney's offense DAILY. Chaney had a decision to make. Is he supposed to change his offense and possibly look way way more foolish than they ended up looking? Or should he roll with what's installed and hope the defense can bail him out? I think he made the right call.

Smokey512,Chaney could not go down to the field to help block-which would have been the help JG could have used.

coremocmac,The backs did stay to block some. They got blown up or missed blocks more than once. When you have less than 2 seconds to get rid of the ball, things will be kind of bleak for an optimal outcome.

Chaney, JG, the O - Line, there is plenty of blame to go around. I don't know that you can put more blame on one person or position group than another. The offense was inept, really the whole day. We hit two deep balls for scores, but there were no sustained drives of any kind. We couldn't run the ball, we couldn't pass protect. JG held the ball too long at times, didn't feel the rush as has been his MO for awhile now. Chaney called a pass play on 3rd and 2 in my opinion because he didn't trust our run game enough to pick up 2 yards when Georgia was sitting in a short yardage defense. I'm not justifying the play call, I'm just speculating on why the call was made. The bottom line is, the offense has A LOT of work to do. I don't think the blame is on one particular guy or position group, I think the entire offense needs to "put on more steam."
That was a rational and competent post. That’s like a unicorn around here right now. Good job. 👍

Nah. Georgia blew our offense up. BUT, we should have been punting. The second half should have been an ugly defensive slugfest.... but ya know... 3 fumbles and a pick.

I will say I wish Chaney would stop throwing on 3rd and 2. It’s getting predictable.
I checked the games team stat and it says we only had 2 fumbles and an interception. Did I miss something. I know tomato, tomATo.

Is that because Pruitt is a defensive guy? Just asking.

That is the million dollar question. Hopefully he gets replaced during the Kentucky game.

JG must have pix of Chaney stuffing 5-6 Subway footlongs down his pants during a team lunch. Let's buy those negs and bring in our next QB. Buh Bye JG. The indoor arena football league is calling you....
