Georgia actually took some of that away. The interception was a pass to Gray out of the backfield. They were keying on check downs when bringing pressure, knowing JG would instinctively check down rather than going for their throat. We needed to take more shots downfield, which has been a theme with JG at quarterback. The only time I can remember him taking consistent shots was against Auburn in 2018.

I hope Chaney stays here for 10 years and I think he will.... He has forgotten more about offense than many of these other cats will ever know. He's a perfect fit for what Pruitt wants to do.

Take shots downfield or throw it in the dirt/out of bounds.

What we don’t need to do is hold the ball out like a loaf of bread while they are bringing the house.

And it was a good call. We were never going to score against Georgia without big plays through the air... 3rd & 2 is great time to get it. Also, we don't know what the other options were on that play. JG may have had three 0-10 yard options on that play. We sure as hell weren't going to pick it up on the ground...

Chaney’s throw-heavy game plans seem to be more tailored to Maurer than Guarantano. That is my only beef.

When you have a limited, game-manager QB like JG, you don’t triple down by passing all of the time (as we did in that disastrous third quarter). You instead keep it conservative, try to win the field position battle and put it on the defense. Three-and-out and a punt is much better than a turnover with a QB like that.

Our pass game isn't hard to defend....the defense knows it's outside the hash marks. That big area between the hash marks they don't have to worry about.

Thanks Smokey512 for beginning this thread. Two weeks ago I asked for Cheney to be freed of his job and I am more convinced now he is asleep at the wheel. When you are on the road of a strong SEC opponent, you need to control the ball. Early in the game when Chaney had JG throw the ball down the sidelines with 3rd and 1 from our own side of the 50, I turned off the game right then and there for the rest of the game was as predictable as Peyton Manning scoring with less than two minutes left in any game. Boneheaded is an understatement for that call. So, up until now, I have placed the blame at Cheney's feet, even though he can't see it....!! However, Coach Pruitt needs to step up and have a come to Jesus meeting with Chaney. Control the ball. Two simple strategies: Get first downs, not touchdowns. Positive yards on first down. If Chaney employs the right game plan, I feel our players are good enough to win most games.

One thing about Georgia in particular that might make him struggle is the familiarity. We thought that might give him an edge since he knows Georgia's defense, but maybe the opposite is true that they know his offense so well it's hard to out scheme them.

All Vol fans, whether they focus on JG or the OL seem to agree that the Offense as a whole looked horrid. Defense played well enough to win (at least until they got gassed by -13 minute time of possession stat). And the responsibility for the offense as a whole is on the Offensive Coordinator and the Head Coach who employs him.

I think the bigger issue is we faced a historically good defense. This isn’t an average Georgia defense. It’s probably the best unit in the nation and the best we’ve seen since 2016 or so Bama

You mean several five star runningbacks that could function right?

They rushed for more yards than passing each of those years. His qbs were 177-239 ypg.

JG is putting up numbers on par with each qb you listed.

The difference is the run game.
