Does Dooley and Hart see something in Chaney that I don't? Or is there not a better replacement available that would be a better fit?
Or, did the injuries and lack of players ability to execute the run game make Chaney look worse than he really is?
I guess this year will help answer those questions.
Maybe a complete coaching overhaul was too risky so they rebuilt the defensive staff first, then if the offense struggles it will be next....although a new OC might not want Graham or Hinshaw...
I'm glad I'm a fan and not the coach.
Chaney has produced VERY productive offenses. Compared to his career, last year was an anomaly.
what games bray kept us inChaney did not have many options last year. Bray kinda kept us in the game while he was on the field. BUt the lack of blocking and running game really hadcuffed him in regard to play selection. Nothing worked consistently. Why do you think Dooley was going on 4th down some many times. We have more bodies this year and maybe the line develops and we have some backs that will HIT the hole and not dance around in the backfield. I think we'll have more team speed this year and that should open up some possibilities. Hope so anyway.
at Purdue..with Drew Breez ..in the Big 10
The pass happy system that features the sprint draw running system will not work in the SEC .
The backers are too good for the spint draw ...get all the backs , fire all the O line coaches...it still wont work ...especially in the SEC . That is why CJC has never produced a running game . Which historically , you need one of those to win in the SEC.
pass happy system without a running game wont work in the SEC ...especially with a thin defense. They will not control the clock and will get run over when the defense runs out of gas ...usually after half time. Sound familiar?
CJCs succuss was in a different conference , with a superior mobile QB . We dont have one of those. he needs a system that will be effective in the SEC , with a non mobile QB ...that has plenty of potential but is as of yet unproven. success in the SEC = stop the run , run the ball . CJC has yet to do one ( run the ball ) and has a system that does not lend itself to the other ( stop the run )
He needs to change something or it will go from 'anomaly' to a 'trend' real soon
Coach Dooley has spoken publicly about how the run game will be one of the offseason's top priorities. He has spoken in the past that he wants to establish the run and how the running game in general is extremely important. However, with the personnel we have on offense, our strengths are in the passing game with NFL talent at the QB and WR positions. You have to work with what you have, even if you hold the run game in high regard.I honestly could not tell if it was CJC or CHH as the problem. I am hopeful it is CHH and not what you are thinking above. But it is a no brainer you have to run in the SEC to win,, The problem is I have not heard CDD say that.
