Chaney has had a lot of success at a lot of different places, including some great offenses at UT. Is this a case of Pruitt handcuffing Chaney or personnel? It’s fairly obvious that they don’t trust JG to attack the middle of the field, at any level. We seem to only attack the sideline, which these are long passes and if JG doesn’t hit the first couple it clearly rattles his confidence. A good OC gets easy passes and completions, they have to manage the psyche of the QB and if JG is QB1 they have to do a better job of that. Play design should be short to intermediate routes that give the WR the ability to catch and run, which I rarely see happen. Always a curl with the hope that they can break a tackle. Play calling HAS to be better.

Does anyone ever see our guys getting loose before a QB change??? TV coverage always shows it on other games...I either miss it on TN games or maybe its not happening

It did show Bailey warming up before he entered IIRC. Tv coverage doesn’t want to miss the circus on the field.

I seem to remember this is what he/they did with the "new guy". I think I remember about 5-6 over the middle passes for about 8-12 yards during his short "trial" time late in the game.

I have always felt Chaney has superior offensive calling talents if he had the right ingredients. We're just missing some key ingredients on both lines and at QB!

Game has passed him buy. Example: He needs to watch some Chiefs games and get creative. When he puts a man in motion, snap the ball and quick toss to the motion receiver for a jet sweep. It's there all day because no one respects our passing game.

Curl route to the RB, had no opportunity to catch and run as the defense was keeping everything in front of them. Not to mention, these chewed clock in a time where we needed to have urgency.

I know he's Pruitt's bestie, but Will Friend needs to be gone after this season as should Weinke and Chaney. Our O-Line is too talented and not getting coached up. Neither Weinke nor Chaney can develop QB's. A case of Pruitt hiring his Ala buddies instead of the right Coach's who can develop players.

Chaney, IMO is not the problem. Pruitt may be meddling with the offensive game plan and/or he just don’t have it at QB and I’d say it’s probably a little of both but more the latter. He’s developed talent everywhere he’s been, had good offenses for the most part as well. He’s not just forgotten how to call a game over night.

The game has passed him by. His offense's weren't good at Ga and even their fans wanted him gone.

Better play description, still over the middle. I don't think all the urgency in the world would have helped. I though Ark. was playing soft. Still it did what I hoped, gave the "new guy" just a little game experience. As to HB starting the next game (against A&M I think) Might not be such a good idea. He could get killed. Or get someone trying to make a catch liked.

He was lighting up Alabama in the SEC Championship game. The problem is clearly Pruitt. We saw the same thing here when Fulmer lost Cutcliffe. Fulmer was meddling and had Randy Sanders play conservative. Then when we got Clawson he meddled there and didn't push the O-Line coach to listen to Clawson, which was a big part of the reason no one looked to be on the same page.

I would agree with this. JG limits the playbook. Regardless that he has the ability to get us in the right play pre-snap, we still can’t execute for the most part. The ceiling for HB is much higher, I think you have to take your lumps and let him grow and develop.

It doesn't matter who our qb is (unless he can create run havoc like Dobbs, which I don't see on this roster)...
when the D covers Palmer, the rest of the receivers cannot separate nor consistently catch. There is no "go to guy" like Jennings, there is no tight end leverage. Maybe Hyatt and Wideman can grow; I'd like to see them on the field more.
