Chaney on the Hot Seat?

So your post was sarcastically correct? As far as I know he handles RBs in this current setup. Looking at his coaching history he's mostly been TEs/OL.

I thought he dealt largely with the OL and QB position. I could be wrong.

STL: OL/TE
Pur: OC/TE/RC
Wyoming: OL/RC

Though, like I said earlier, he designs and refines his systems based on his QB. So, in essence, he's a QB's OC... but not a QB's Coach.

I don't know what team you've been watching for the last 4 weeks, but the team I've been watching has been trying to run the ball and for the most part, have done so unsuccessfully. Don't you think CDD knows that in order to stay in any game, they have to have more than a little over 1 yard per carry? This isn't rocket science. It's simply our big men push their big men and their big men push us back - way back, and down.

Only 8 running plays out of 40 plays in the 2nd half including OT vs UAB with a 16 pt halftime lead? Six before the end of regulation? Five of 8 2nd half drives began with a pass? Neal had 5 rushes for 23 yards in the 2nd half. Oku had 3 total carries in the second half.

Not once in the second half was a 1st down passing play that did not make a 1st down followed by a run.

I like the staff. I like Chaney. But you can't abandon the run and become that predictable against anyone. If I can figure it out then UAB's coaches surely could.

We've been able to throw a lot more balls deep than I thought we would. I expected all dink and dunk with the Oline.

Dropped balls is the correct priority for coaching. That's the WR coach who has got to step it up, not the OC. But, it takes time.

Simms still looks better than I expected.

No. This much positive from you is by far the biggest surprise of the thread.

I don't know about football as much of you guys do...but what makes playcalling predictable? 3rd and 10 you are probably passing. 3rd and 1 you are probably running. So they did this or not?.... please explain to a non football expert

I keep hearing people compare head coaches like the head coaches actually do something.

Other than Lane Kiffin, most head coaches pick a staff and manage the team. The success on the field is actually due to the OC, DC, and position coaches.

With that said, do you think Chenney is on a review period? Kind of like when you get a job you have a 90 day probation period so the employer can tell if they want to keep you?

If so, since Chenney is a hold over from the Lane Kiffin era and isn't showing anything explosive on offense, do you think Dooley will start looking at other options for next year? Because by year 3, if Dooley's squad (coaches) isn't producing, he may be on the hot seat himself.

Who all thinks Chenney's play calling has been weak thus far?

:lolabove: WhoTF is Chenney?

I'm not judging any coordinator or coach until next year. They've all inherited a terribly young, thin and flawed roster. Give them a year to coach these kids up and next year to actually have a chance to run schemes and adjustments with players who've been around the system a year. This year everyone gets a pass except Fulmer and his lazy staff's legacy.

I don't know about the staff we have, but if UGA has a shake-up after this year, I hope we are first in line for Rodney Garner. With our emphasis on recruiting GA, it would be a perfect fit for our team. I don't care what position you hire him for.

Chaney's hands are tied, no Poole, no running game. No Gerald Jones and a bunch of freshmen receivers, freshmen O-line, backup QB from Louisville. Not to many people going to do a whole lot with that hand. We're probably lucky it hasn't looked much worse.

My opinion and a dollar will get me a cup of coffee but I think we pass too much on 1st down.

Yeah let's fire our oc and have our offense learnANOTHER system next year. We have got to have some of the dumbest fans in college football. The only chance CDD has to get back on top is for the team to his systems like the back of their hands.

:good!: I agree! These posts are really funny. It is the OC's fault that a receiver drops a perfectly thrown ball. It is the OC's fault that a freshman jumps on third and short. It's the OC's fault that the same freshman misses his assignment and lets the QB get sacked yet again. Yes, we need ANOTHER OC - YET ANOTHER coach. Come on people GET REAL AND GET A LIFE! :cray:

Are you serious?

They do and it doesn't work.

Vs. Florida - 1.3 yards per carry
Vs. UAB - 1.6 yards per carry

The jig is up. Teams know the Vols can't throw so they ignore it and stack the box

Yeah, it was 1.3 and 1.6 yards per carry when you factor in the countless times that Simms was sacked. The guys who actually carry the ball, though, averaged 3.13 yards per carry against Florida and 4.4 yards per carry against UAB. That's not terrible.

Back in the CPF days, everyone complained because we ran on first down all the time. Now some complain because we throw too much on first down. Man, it sure is easy to coach from the stands, isn't it?

Yeah I heard they are going to make Jimmie Johnson drive a Ford Focus in the next NASCAR race and if he doesnt win they are going to kick him off the team. This rumor true too?

Chaney can only do so much with the players he has.....Chaney is fine

That is absolutely true. He didn't drop passes. Those drops more than likely cut off the script of plays he had in mind.

The teams' failure to execute well called and designed plays on third and long didn't help either.

It is subtle but I simply would have liked to have seen more 1st down runs and especially with Neal who seems to have very good instincts. It would have eaten more clock and kept UAB from loading up on the pass rush.
