Chaney Officially named New OC

Gee, don't know what to think of this but O just did not want to come here, evidently. Lake? Monte would know if that is the man he wants.

I tell you what I like out of all of this - NO good ole' boys from the UT family - all fresh outside blood. Just what we need imo.

I think YOU need to watch it again. He never said it.

I think he did actually, or something to the effect that the other VIA said. That was the part he was talking about having patience with him.

He did make a comment that he'll assemble a staff that any NFL GM would be happy to have.

Don't recall when or where he made that comment.

Trying to locate it myself, but I do remember it being said.

He said the G.M. comment

Appreciate's the other's remembering the comment..

VIA, I did try to find the video of the first presser, I remember I watched on WATE on-line at work, but I can't find it

found a transcript on rocky top talk, but it didn't include the Q&A, which I believe is when he made the statement

Really, he is DB coach for Lions?

This is what my AU buddy just emailed me... I don't know anything other than what he says below:

U see this?

UT looks to have added two more coaches*

Jim Chaney, formerly of the St Louis Rams and Purdue,*as OC:
The official site of the St. Louis Rams - Coaches <http://www.stlouisrams.com/Team/Coaches/53066/>

Jimmy Lake, formerly of Detroit and Tampa Bay, as DB:
Detroit Lions Site <http://www.detroitlions.com/bio.cfm?bio_id=536&section_id=15&top=21&level=2&season=0>

Joins:
David Reaves QB (South Carolina)
James Clegg maybe OL maybe TE's (Raiders)
Monte Kiffin DC (Tampa Bay)

Still around from old staff but undetermined going forward:
Stan Drayton RB
Jason Michael TE

Mr. Chaney has lost some serious weight. Wow. That takes discipline. Hope he can coach that too (not the weight, the discipline).

I have no reason to think that this is anything but a step up. The Boilermakers were an offensive juggernaut under Chaney and has NFL experience. Are we going to become "pass happy" under Chaney, or was that Joe Tiller's doing?

Is he pretty? That'll determine how successful he'll be. Just ask Joe Pa...I mean he's pretty ain't he?

Let's see...Chaney turned Brees into a Heisman candidate, who now is one of the most prolific passers in the NFL for his era. Just came within 17 yds of breaking Marino's all -time passing yardage record for one season...think he might be able to use this as a recruiting tool?? Kiffin reminds me of Calipari...

We'll make field goals when they count?

Michael is no longer on the staff

I admit it is starting to look like only a ploy for O to get more money from LSU - doubt he (or his family) were ever really serious about the UT job.

I think O had real interest in UT until the family issue arose. I honestly don't think O expected Miles to come calling at first. The ability to stay home and coach college ball might be too much for him to pass up. Any other situation and he goes to UT.

Will this new OC have any play calling duties at all? Or is this just a a fancy title for recruiter/QB coach?

Has Orgeron "officially" accepted a position at LSU? (Sorry if I missed the obvious somehow, I had to work today!)

Being from St. Louis, I see him as more of a qb coach and a recruiter. If he does call plays we will most likely turn into a pass happy team. I think we really lost out on gonzalez from florida :ermm:

No sir. Some believe it was accepted in principle and that the final signature will be given tomorrow some time. Ed is apparently taking the family on a small vacation to talk things over and make sure everyone is happy about the deal.
