Not fair to compare recruiting records/results with the Gators..... As a matter of fact, getting top 20 classes to PURDUE :birgits_giggle: would seem more impressive to me.

If the best coaches were average players in high school and college, then I've got an unlimited future. I was so bad in high school I couldn't play anywhere in college. Heck, I never started a single game.

This reminds me of Calvin & Hobbes. "I'm some sort of genius. You know how Einstein had bad grades? Well mine are even worse!"

He may not be quite the recruiter Gonzo is, but he is still solid. I also think he will be a much better coach for this system. If we land a solid WR coach, then we will be better than expected.

Does Chaney's hiring put us out of the running with Gonzales? If he was truly miffed by not being promoted to OC at Florida, might he come to Tennessee for a big pay raise to coach WR's, even without the OC title?

Thus begins the changing of the guard. With credit to GA, it is time for Vol fans to forget all their preconceived notions of coaches (strength and conditioning included). This is a new era.

No more recruiting athletes and trying to plug them in somewhere in the receiving corps or the defensive backfield. No more giant gummy bears on the OL. I am convinced that there is a plan in place. Business as usual has no part of that plan.

This is now a cognitive journey....and that will take a lot of getting used to. Keep in mind that this is all very consistent with what we heard in Lane's first presser. A football coach is a teacher first.

That's not the point. I think Kiffin realizes that going up against any of those schools for recruits in their home states will be difficult. However, if we can get a couple of top guys from each region of the country to go along with what we pull from TN, GA, SC, NC, FL we can put together very solid classes. Kiffin is definitely focusing on national recruiting and not just regional. With O going to LSU, my guess is that we keep Drayton. That will still leave us with Drayton and Reaves who can recruit the FL/SEC area very successfully and don't forget about Monte who should be able to pull big recruits out of central FL. We'll be fine.

Recruiting against Michigan and Ohio State is more than a fair proving ground.

Honestly, he shouldn't have any trouble pulling recruits out of any state.

Everyone in the country should want to play for Monte's defense if they are wanting to go pro. Sure there are others out there, but why not play for a guy that just came out of the NFL, being arguably the best defensive mind in the game.

I keep hearing that but I don't buy into it. FL kids, yes. Remember that Tampa won the Super Bowl when most of these recruits were 11 or 12. Tampa's D has been solid in recent years but I don't think Monte will be able to impress recruits like everybody is thinking he will. I'm not saying that he won't be able to pull in talent, I'm just not so sure it will be as easy as everybody seems to think.
