Chaney-LSU???? (another rumor)

I just have not seen what he has done to deserve being the highest paid OC in the SEC. Malzahn had HC offers and Weis has been a HC and NFL OC. What am I missing?

You aren't missing anything. Chaney, and every assistant on that staff benefited financially from the way their predecessors blew in and out of town. Kiffin opted for less salary personally, as to pay the hell out of his assistants. It's simply carry-over. Start taking money away--lose coaches. Simple as that.

That said; I love Chaney and feel he will prove his worth forthwith.

I actually think Chaney deserves a raise unlike the head coach. I would much rather lose Wilcox than Chaney at this point. That being said this is a good thing that our coaches names are floated out there. We got so use to having coaches that really weren't in demand. We had a few but most of them weren't going to land a better job\more money. Now we are where we're at.

I'm not saying he should be, just that if a program like LSU wants him, it is hard to argue he isn't a very good OC.

Everyone reading understood it was a rumor about Chaney going to LSU and many blasted him for the post. He tried to defend it by claiming it was not a rumor about Chaney going to LSU but was instead about giving him a raise. Either he is lying or his communication skills are greatly lacking.

I suspect he tried to defend the rumor by deflecting that it was really about his salary; a topic he has had an equally difficult time defending.

I agree. It's awfully hard to say the man DESERVES a raise at this point. Although it wouldn't be the first time an AD threw money at a coach not to leave. Incentivizing loyalty and incentivizing job performance are two very different animals.

I'm for banning people that post unsubstantiated rumors. This is getting quite ridonculous.

Sorry, guys. The dude is right about it being a rumor. I don't know how reliable football rumor mill is, but this is what it says.

Football Rumor Mill
Tennessee OC Jim Chaney is rumored to be on Les Miles' short list at LSU.

The rumor was started by a Baton Rouge radio station sports talk show. A caller called in and suggested Jim Chaney because of his background with Drew Brees at Purdue. As you know, Brees is the King of Louisiana now. Whatever he suggests, people listen.

It is not happening. Chaney will not make a lateral move. When he does leave it will be for a college head coaching gig or a NFL OC gig.

Like Coach Dooley says "We want people to want our coaches, that means we are doing a good job"! I feel like if someone does not want to coach at Tennessee then move on! We will be able to find someone that is up and coming and ready to make a name for themselves. Look where ole Gus came from. Has to be another one out there in the same situation! Coach Dooley will be able to hire guys that want to be at Tennessee. Coach Cheney has to do whats best for him, not the fans!

Here is another interesting name, well for CDD anyway tied to the LSU job:

Derek Ponamsky of BayouBengalsInsider.com reports that Les Miles has already talked with four candidates (i.e., he knew that Gary Crowton would not be back), but the only name that Ponamsky can confirm is Arizona QB coach Frank Scelfo, a Louisiana native who has been OC at Tulane and Louisiana Tech (under Derek Dooley).

Sorry, man. I didn't go back to the beginning. It is a rumor. I doubt it has legs, however.

Understandable--you didn't miss much. Just reference any one of the other rumor threads of the past month, and replace Wilcox, Dooley, or Thompson with Chaney.

jesus. pay these guys what they want so we can work on rebuilding....we cant go through this every year... it HURTS recruiting. this college game is getting crazy. the coaching carosel is getting rediculouse...

Don't know if this has been posted yet...

We're told Billy Gonzales is the clear leader to be LSU's new OC.

So, guys, please stop and chill out.

How about you guys get Pat Hill from Fresno State.. ha ha. We'll take Chaney as the new Head Coach here at FSU and he can bring Bray back home with him...lol...

I think there is a better shot at this happening then the thread title....sound like a deal. Let's make it happen. :pepper:

Here is yet another rumor, I seriously doubt it happens though:

fbrumormill Tennessee OC Jim Chaney is rumored to be on Les Miles' short list at LSU.

That's what was said about Wylie. But if UT is smart, they will take steps to keep Chaney here. The one thing we can't afford to lose is a proven recruiter.

I would say Chaney would rather stay and coach Bray than go to LSU for a lateral position and do the flip flop QB thing.

I would be interested to see who Dooley would go for if Chaney were to leave. I would bet they didn't run an end around every fresh set of downs
