Chaney and the O-line.

Calling it now, the line will be better this year, BUT not better enough for Friend to keep his job. Chaney talks CJP into bring Pitman over as CO-OC. THEN, there can be no arguement, we will have the best coaching staff in the country!!!!!
Firstly...Pittman ain’t leaving UGA. The man’s loyal to a fault. He turned down Bama to stay at Arkansas and only bailed when it was beyond obvious that Bielema had fused a hot seat to his own azz. He’s untouchable down at UGA and retires there. Humoring your scenario, hiring him as a Co-OC as a way around his contract has a Joe Wickline situation written all over it. Bunch down in Athens would be salty and would be charting every play call in preparation for the lawsuit. But it’s fun to fantasize so I’ll remove the blanket before it dries.

Yeah but Pittman and Chaney are BFFs. From UT, to Arky, to GA, .... complete the Circle!

I think if CJP really wants him, CPF will pony up some big time Sacajeweas to entice Pittman to reunite with Chaney.

They worked together ONE season at UT...their last. No history before that. Since then Chaney’s left him behind TWICE. Don’t doubt they work together well...just look at the results. Don’t know where this “best friend” narrative come from...maybe it’s true but you’d think Chaney would’ve taken what Smart was offering if they were really tight. It’s not about whether CJP would want him...it’s if it’s reciprocal. UGA forked out Chaney money to keep him so it’s not about Native American currency either. He’s built a kingdom down there and it’s not a simple fait accompli that we snap and he comes running as some of us are crafting. He retires there.

Left him behind twice🤔
Maybe instead of inferring "bff's", we go with Pittman gets on Chaney's nerves. Just as "true" given what they're basing his coming here on.

I’ve quit trying to guess how the OL will be from year to year. We’ll know more regarding what this dynamic between Friend and Chaney is all about by around Sep 21. Just show me.

Is Friend a great OL coach? I don't know but since the success of Chaney's offense depends on having a decent OL he is leaving nothing to chance. His reputation and job hinges on an improved OL and he may be able to teach Friend a thing or two. Probably some CYA involved.

This^^^^^ if you are middle management and you know the people under you will make YOU look bad or good, and you see an obvious weakness...you are all over that weakness.

This isn’t necessarily anything horribly bad, it’s just him doing his job.

Folks, UT’s OL has been the weakness in offense for years now. Friend, who appears to be a very good coach by nearly all accounts, isn’t a magician and it takes time to fix years of bad habits and technique, poor S&C, etc., on the OL. Chaney knows that the offense has other pieces in place to be pretty good IF the OL can hold its own. Guarantano, if he has time, should be an upper half in the SEC QB. If Chandler, Gray, and Jordan have holes, they’ll be an upper half in the SEC RB stable. Wood-Anderson + the WRs should be one of the top 3-5 receiving units in the SEC. So, Chaney, who recognizes the unit that needs the most attention (including because the talent deficiency at the OL likely means at least two true freshmen will get meaningful snaps this year) is getting the most attention. This doesn’t mean Friend isn’t a good coach. It means that Chaney’s role was to be the OC and to float around the various units to make sure his vision is carried out and he’s doing that. Plus, the only reports we get are the open periods and we have no idea if Chaney is spending the closed periods with other units. In sum, let’s recognize that Friend has a reputation as a good OL coach and that is why Pruitt hires him and that Chaney is doing exactly what he was hired to do.

Thanks for doing the hard work. Those are EXACTLY my thoughts as well....Good Job What!!!

So Friend has trouble focusing on 5 players in practice or his 3 kids on vacation??

That explains a helluva lot.
Being a former offensive line coach, I totally understand what he is saying. So many times, you are focused on the point of attack. Then the play is busted because of the backside not doing their job. One coach is responsible for playside and one is watching backside blocking during drills and group time. It makes a huge difference.

Would love a media member to ask him if he spent time on the OL at UGA.

Was hoping someone would post this. One of my favorite coaching rants.

I laugh every time. Mora is front of a blue background in the original rant. But most remember it from Coors light commercial, so I went with that one. Too many options in the gif market out there.

Covered it all in your last sentence. (In sum)...
