Chances on Bailey Staying a Vol

I've heard it suggested it's as simple as HB not being a Heupel guy....one that he brought in. If true....that would be a bad thing.

The question always will be if the guru coach had put as much time in Bailey as he did Milton, how good could Bailey be. It's fairly obvious that all the time put into Milton was a waste.

I, along with everyone else on this board have no idea why Bailey isn’t playing. The only thing I can come up with is this staff sees something we don’t.

Most of Y’all were calling for Milton the moment you seen him too. The “oooooo, ahhhhhhh” physical specimen meant he was automatically the best qb on the roster the moment he signed.



If only he were a qb.

I was the same way. But with QBs it seems like it’s kind of a mystery. I mean whose to say next year Bailey doesn’t light it up? Not saying he will but there is a chance. Also, you are correct, we don’t have any good QBs. Haven’t had a real good passing QB since Bray.

Gotta hope Heupel can do what no other coach has been able to do since Kiffin. Actually develop our QBs.

The fact that each coach has heavily recruited the QB position with Bailey sitting there should tell you plenty. Had Salter not been stupid Bailey was probably 5th in the pecking order by August and would probably have transferred before the season. I hope Bailey truly develops and does it here but Chaney and Heupel, two pretty successful QB coaches have been all in on signing other quarterbacks to the extent they were willing to use 5 scholarships on QBs just to get things in order at the position.

Bailey hasn’t looked good in his limited action in my opinion. Hooker appears to be the best option. Bailey looks like another bust for us

Imo he hasn't looked good because he isn't getting practice reps and is playing with the 2s and 3s when he does manage to take a few snaps in game. He will transfer and kill it, and we'll be looking stupid. As usual. Remember Butch Jones told Trevor Lawrence to kick rocks because he "didn't fit the system"....similar situation imo. But obviously I dont think HB will be as good as TL.

In 2019 I got absolutely FLAMED for stating that the incoming QB (Bailey) was over rated and that the Bailey fan club was setting themselves up for disappointment. Well, here we are. He’s not playing because he isn’t as good as his “stars” said he was. I think now the question I had then has been answered and he was a product of the team he played for rather than a true 4-5* qb that the team is a product of him. He can’t carry this team. He needs his team to carry him. He’d do well elsewhere where he has the o line, receivers and RBs to piggy back on like he had in HS. I know it sounds harsh and I’m in no way intending it that way because he CAN improve with a coach willing to take the time. But a coach can’t fix the talent around him fast enough at UT for him to succeed. He needs to try and land at Alabama, Georgia or Clemson.

So he’s not good but needs to go to Bama Georgia or Clemson… riiiight.

If you look at Milton & Hooker, neither one are elite passers but they both bring mobility to this offense.

It’s very possible JH knew the O-Line wasn’t one of our strengths this year and he had to have a QB that could do damage with his legs in order for the offense to sustain drives consistently.

Watching Bailey play, he’s not a threat to run with his legs and is limited offensively. Is he a better passer? Maybe but the O-Line is definitely not good enough to give Bailey time to make the necessary throws.

Most likely, Bailey won’t see the field unless Milton & Hooker go down with injuries.

Never said he wasn’t good. You don’t reach this level of play without being good at what you do. He just needs a supporting cast around him that UT doesn’t have. If Heupel threw him out there right now it would only make him look worse than he is and VN would come unglued. Would he be better than Milton? I think so but the bar isn’t set very high to begin with.

Transfer portal is awesome, I think this is what can take teams to next level quickly. Should have been able to do this a long time ago. Sometimes it is just not a good fit for people. No different than workplaces.

Yeah, (Transfer Portal is awesome) that can work 2 ways Bama could nudge some 4 & 5 stars that ended in their 3 deep to the Portal and go get more top 4 & 5 stars and best players off inferior teams. Even telling the players(sleepers, that become sure-fire NFL draftees) from so so teams come over, Portal, and play here for championships. Leaving the also-rans with the leftovers.
