Chances of Tennessee Reaching 8-10 Wins

everyone talking 8 or 9 wins point out all the warts the teams we will be playing have but have little to say about the warts our team has.

70% of our team are under classmen. That will make great coaches average or below average coaches...

I really hope you are all correct but have a hard time seeing it at this point....

LWS you are just wrong here. You will see in time. Those 70% are much more talented then the uppers we lost. They all got plenty of playing time last year. We have warts yes. However, they are less then last year by far. Our O-line is solid this year. We have a pool of RBs. We have far more talented WRs ready to take the reigns. Our Dline actually has a full SEC caliber unit although the 2-deep still gets interesting. Our DBs are not as young and are very good. Our LB situation is not ideal true. We may start one Freshmen on O and none on D. The new guys who are starting are Juco. WE should as a fan base expect 8 wins this year as a minimum. It is time we reclaimed our pride. We are talent wise not far from UGA or USClite there is no big gap. We are used to having to out talent people because we honestly had a bad coaching for many years. A good coach would win with these guys this year. He may not win 10 but he would get 8 and expect no less out of himself.

Agreed I'd rather have an inexperienced AJ Johnson than a senior Nick Reveiz...

But guys, the goal this year is a bowl game, any bowl game. Anything more is gravy, anything less, we'd better hope Dooley has a decent class shaping up.

How can any Tennessee fan hate Fulmer?

How?

I certainly don't hate Fulmer. His time was up he had lost his recruiting dominance that helped him with a great run in the 90's and he still won a lot after 2000 just not nearly as dominant. We will see what CDD can do. I like a lot about him but he has to win. 8 wins would cerainly satisfy most for this season.season

Btw, I posted that from a gym near a river and I'm wearing a ut football shirt with the sleeves ripped off. No lie.

I'm trying, but I can't find a lot of reason to believe that the people who were good enough to beat the piss out of us last season won't be good enough to do it again.

Anything that predicts a future based on an imaginary past or includes the letters G, S, and M in any combination irks me. Maybe it was something in my upbringing.

I have never posted anything remotely close to the above. Real world outside the back door - always. It cannot be denied.

I just hope no one is disappointed because those talking > 8 wins are:

Gentlemen's disagreement. Nothing more.

I agree.

FWIW, I predicted 4 wins last year. I felt we would split November games and give lots of credit to the staff for sweeping November. So maybe my 6 is two short again. :)

I just don't agree. To heck with the waiting for next year; I think the goal is to win every game. I'll be surprised and disappointed if they don't win at least 8.

goals and expectations are different things. I know the team has a goal to win every game as do most fans. My goal is to win every game.

Assessing the team and schedule though determines my expectations..

That's reasonable enough. But players must expect to win tough games if they're going to actually do it. Are we at a point where those expectations are real? Not with the depth they'd like to have, but they are close to being there for real...I think. BTW, I don't gamble on the team at all. So my view might be a little more optimistic than a disciplined numbers guy.

Vegas will likely have our win over/under at 7. We're substantially more talented than 6 of our opponents; we're substantially less talented than 4 of our opponents; and we're closely behind in talent to 2 of our opponents, one of which we play at home. Our likely bowl opponent will be of similar talent, or less.

I anticipate 7-6, mostly because I see Dooley as an average coach, who will win when he has more talent, lose when he doesn't, and win about half the time when the talent is close. Of course, that means he will have to coach better at UT than he showed at La. Tech.

My guesstimate...

Chances of # of Wins
10+: 10%
9: 10%
8: 15%
7: 25%
6: 20%
5: 10%
4-: 10%

My mistake. I thought you were the guy continually posting about winning the east under the fantasy history that kept Fulmer as HC.

What's with the 15th century porn in your post?

Not including the bowl, this is roughly my feeling. Although I'd probably take 5% (each) from the 4- and the 10+ sections and add them to 7 and 8.
