if Butch bolted, we would expedite an AD hire because no coaching hire would transpire until the AD was named. That likely will be completed by New Years but could move up if a coach hire needed.. Depends on if state policy would allow it to move faster.
As far as a coaching replacement, please think in terms of 2.7 to 3.3 million as the price tag we shop at. it is what we do....
I have a great friend of 15+ years that works in the school operations office for 25+ years, I floated that question to him and his response was laughter, he said the name floating around is Lane Kiffin, he also implied that Kelly may get one more year just because of contract structure more than anything else....
LWS I know you said coaches always listen and I agree- but is Butch really unhappy here? I know he's frustrated and disappointed in this season, but is there more to this or is media just stirring the pot?
I would imagine since ND would be paying us for Butch, we could start at 3.3 Million. I believe in this scenario, our program condition would be the proof to spend more than our normal budget hire mentality
"Jones, who is 20-17 overall in three seasons at Tennessee, would owe the Volunteers $4 million if he leaves before Feb. 28, 2017 and $3 million if he leaves between that date and Feb. 28, 2018."
Notre Dame, in this scenario, basically gives us 4 million to start out for our next coach. I would assume if we are in a position where our coach leaves for another job and we get paid, our boosters would spend more money than usual. They haven't been in this position from a spending perspective before.
Not sure if I would classify as unhappy or just a mixture of all those feelings. I know his long term goals have been pro ball. Don't think that has changed at this point.
How does Tennessee fit into his long term goals after a disappointing season? Missing Atlanta missed his goal for this year so that is a disappointment. Could that cause him to listen to suitors more closely? Perhaps. Its just his call on jobs that help him reach his goals
our history just does not support that. We have had plenty of money in the past available but not pursued high price coaches. I would have to see it happen to believe it
He would need to completely overhaul his persona to fit in the NFL. He's Greg Schiano, part 2. Rah-rah cliche types tend to not work in the NFL these days.
Could you imagine Butch offering up his most recent cliche in his weekly presser when his team is 2-9?
