Boosters are wielding their power and influence. Civil war between boosters and admin needs to settle quickly. Currie wants to force a quick hire to save his skin, but he has lost the boosters who pay for all this. What a mess.
Currie must be replaced by Blackburn, booster support must be solidified, then get the coach. What coach wants to walk into a civil war, working for an incompetent AD who has lost booster support?

Conspiracy theory: they orchestrated Davenport?s rejection of the Brohm deal to create evidence to defend against a possible Schiano lawsuit for liquidated damages. If her approval is necessary, and if she didn?t sign the Schiano MOU, his quest to get rich in UT?s dime is over. This bolsters our defense.

All the "media" do that otherwise they be nothing. Sometimes they manage the blind squirrel thing and develop a following who think they are omnipotent.

The first thing about negotiating is that it has to be kept between the two parties. When this stuff happens, everybody has to accept one or both of two choices:

1) Currie is incompetent (highly believable) and can not follow rule number one of one, or he is being sabotaged by people who know he's incompetent - having hopes of keeping the right side up and/or those who answer to a different authority.

2) The clowns in the know are simply making sh1t up - probably true, too.

Something like the perfect - storm yellow rain mixed drizzly to sleety brown stuff - interspersed with larger chunks.

Davenport is the Chancellor of the UT Knoxville Campus. She IS NOT a "president" of UT. She is responsible for everything on the UTK campus, academics as well as athletics. As such her paycheck is paid out of the state wide UT budget of $2.208 billion. Nothing comes from the UTK Athletic Department as you alledge. All chancellors historically turn over most athletic department decisions to their AD., Hart was even considered the Vice Chancellor of Athletics.

All athletics on every campus EXCEPT KNOXVILLE are paid out of the general budget. But they, like the UTK Athletic Department are not even a major heading within the budget. They are a subhead in the Student Services category

Now, because of the paying sports of football and basketball, the Knoxville campus Athletic Department pays for itself and is a separate subhead of its own in the UTK budget header in the state wide $2.2 billion dollar budget. The UTK budget zeros out on revenues and expenses of around ONLY $127 million. ...peanuts compared to the statewide operating budget President DiPietro and the Board of Trustees are responsible for.

And since athletics is ONLY a subhead of student services, don't expect a whole lot of participation from the statewide players.

Currie is the Athletic Director of UT Knoxville.

Chancellor Davenport is his boss.

Family has reportedly received death threats. I bet his life is miserable right now and I know a lot of it is his doing but he is caught in the middle of a tornado.
